ok - so I am size 24, 5ft9 and need an outfit for a garden party type event this March. It will be indoors. Where / what / how? Budget £200ish.

Please help - not sure standard outfit of jeans and nasty fleece will suffice.

Thanks OP will have a think. What you say, specially about 'royal garden party' style rules out the lacier, more eveningy things, IMO.

I wouldn't personally be that keen on a trousers combo -think a dress option better, specially if you have OK legs which, at that height, ( same as mine) you probably do.

IMHO that leopard jacket doesn't look v classy.

OI POLY I love everything you have suggested.....

JaquelineHyde · 07/02/2014 23:01

Have you tried IGIGI

V. sorry ronald no offence intended. Nothing personal .

It's just that I'm 'plus size' myself and so I'm afraid I probably tend to be much better at knowing what I don't like (usually anything that 'specialist plus size' and/or downmarket retailers like Marisota think is all right for fat people) than making constructive suggestions for what I do.

Also, I do genuinely think the trousers and jacket look can be frumpy and aging on big women - and it's a pity to cover legs if they're good.

Likewise, I like some animal prints - have some gorgeous accessories in them, eg from L K Bennett - but not for whole garments in cheap looking material.

I do know that's not much help to the OP.

Fwiw, I personally buy a lot from Boden, choosing carefully. Their sizing varies a lot but they go up to 22 and some items are generous. Think it would be worth OP at least browsing their site.

For special occasions, as I mentioned I go to Carolyn de la Drapiere but first I'm close to her workshop ( S W London) so can easily pop in to discuss and get her to make something personalised for me and second she's pricy (over £200).

My other source for dressy stuff is Marina Rinaldi but that's also mega pricy.

Think Navabi site worth a look, though have so far only bought a jumper from them.

Will have a look online around tomorrow and try to be more constructive.

nice ansa poly

i am not plus size but like to have a scout around and help if I can
i agree that you probably have a far better idea that I - I thought that perhaps a structured jacket in a longer line might create a good silhouette and some good lines and that it can be v smart

I'm tall and lanky so actually no help - sorry but it's worth a try

So thank you everyone - I have ordered three possibles from anna scholz and igigi! Will keep my podgy fingers crossed. the best thing is I didnot know the majority of the websites exsisted and I can shop for quality at last! Also I found out thsi weekend that Wolford tights go up to size 26 - so I can ditch bad fitting tights as well.
