Views on these two bags???

polyhymnia · 05/02/2014 12:07

Have identified two bags that meet most or all of my criteria for an every day work/casual bag in terms of ouside pockets, straps, etc. Both navy and tan would go with most of my wardrobe.

This: www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Accessories/Bags-Wallets/AM210-NAV/Womens-Navy-Soft-Leather-Bowling-Bag.html#nav

and this: www.peonyandmoore.com/product_info.php?cPath=0_12&products_id=205

Views on which is better, please. I know there's quite a price difference, specially as I have a Boden 20% off code. But P and M also have codes from time to time.

Happy to have other suggestions, but no non-leather, M and S, Radley, Modalu, or Michael Kors, please (or Mulberry!).

On the P and M Mariella, have previously ordered one and sent back but that was mostly because I didn't like the shiny leather of the 'toffee' colour. This new version's in the matte grainy leather I prefer.

TIA

Why does everything have brass or gold hardware?!? I want silver!

polyhymnia · 05/02/2014 20:43

Yes, but the Gilly is too structured for me.

Kosher how I agree with you. I'd like everything in silver but I guess lots of people like 'gold' metalware or there wouldn't be so much around!

Mariella definately. Love the slouchiness x

polyhymnia · 06/02/2014 12:54

Thanks for the responses everyone. More votes on balance for the Boden. Think I'll try that first - I only have a 15% discount not a 20%, but still.

Will probably also keep an eye open for offers from P and M, as one navy and one tan bag seems reasonable enough to me and, as pointed out, they are different styles.

Won't actually be ordering till weekend, so any more views still welcome.

I love boden clothes but that bag looks old fashioned and a bit cheap? Mariella looks more lux?

Pesca · 06/02/2014 19:59

I prefer the mariella. However i still think the boden one is nice .

nowaistatall · 06/02/2014 20:57

Mariella is nicer I think - the Boden one is - - - well looks a bit naff tbh - - -

BrennanHasAMangina · 06/02/2014 21:03

I had a Boden bag a while ago. The handles were stitched on crookedly and the 'lovely, soft, buttery' leather meant that it looked horrible...really cheap and nasty...unless it was absolutely stuffed to the brim (as in the picture) to give it some structure back. I would never buy a bag from them again.

polyhymnia · 07/02/2014 10:46

Hmm, tide seems to be turning against the Boden one!

OP posts:
Twinklestein · 07/02/2014 11:05

I think the P&M bag will be better quality leather, but I can't stand Boden so I may not be objective.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 07/02/2014 11:31

I have a boden bowling bag, from years go, soft green leather and it is fab. great quality, it doesn't have the long strap though.

I don't get the obsession with peony and moore on here, I ordered 2 bags and sent them back they weren't anywhere near nice enough to justify the £200 price tags.

polyhymnia · 07/02/2014 12:34

Hmm, know what you mean about P and M, as I've also sent two back and also I have one -Lucia-I never use ( though that might be partly my fault for choosing colour badly).

The people there seem v nice and I really want to like them but ...

My idea of trying the tan Mariella was to give them a 'last chance' (not least in the light of all the positive reviews for them on here) in a colour I really want and style which has main things I need (long strap, outside pockets) for commuting.

I really like the Boden one.

I've tried Boden bags in the past and have found them enormous! OP, if you order it will you report back??

polyhymnia · 07/02/2014 14:06

Yes will report back definitely.
The Mariella is more enormous than the Boden in this case, according to measurements online,

rookiemater · 07/02/2014 14:09

Mariella looks much classier IMHO, an involuntary meh escaped my lips when I looked at the Boden one.

madammecholet · 07/02/2014 14:13

polyhmnia you seen this r&b one, navy with silver hardware plus long strap..IVY bag or this one Milly..

madammecholet · 07/02/2014 14:15

or this one Jenny

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/02/2014 14:55

Before dismissing Radley, have you looked at their Grosvenor bag?

polyhymnia · 07/02/2014 17:01

Those R and B bags are all lovely, Madamme and have checked them out, as I'm a great R and B fan. In fact, my black bag is this:
www.russellandbromley.co.uk/totes/compassion/invt/712757

But none of those perfect - Ivy gorgeous but no outside pocket, Milly has pocket but a little too structured for what I want, and don't like the lock on the Jenny.

Have looked at Radley Grosvenor online, despite my dislike of the brand. Has much of what I want but looks a tad fussy - may check it out in RL as going to Peter Jones soon.

Meanwhile, at lunchtime, was very taken by this (or its larger version) in L K Bennett - though it's the priciest of all!

Ooh..I LOVE that LKB one. I would get the orange!

polyhymnia · 07/02/2014 17:31

Unfortunately it's even lovelier in RL, IMO!

OP posts:
BrennanHasAMangina · 07/02/2014 17:39

Well if your getting a bag in Navy, presumably it's going to be an everyday bag so will get a lot of use? If you used that bag every day for a year it would be about 89P a day, so a bargain really. Plus it's WAY cheaper than a designer bag but looks just as nice (did you see the satin lining?).

BrennanHasAMangina · 07/02/2014 17:40

you're not YOUR. Got a bit excited for a moment there...Blush.

starfishmummy · 07/02/2014 18:18

Mariella but a different colour
