I want a perfume that does this!!!

I hate most perfumes. I wish I could find one that just gave a nice gentle 'what's that lovely smell?' smell.
I hate floral, musk, or anything too sweet. Is there such a thing as a perfume that just produces a gentle, barely noticeable 'Mmmm' of pleasure? I realise that it's a very subjective thing.
I prefer the smell of men's fragrances in general. Is there such a thing as a female fragrance, that is quite 'masculine?' Help!!

AllYourBassClefsBelongToUs · 03/02/2014 20:39

Watching this thread. I want this too!
Generally I quite like CK perfumes which are quite masculine - CK IN2U or CK Be.
But yeah still not quite there.

I totally know what you mean. Most of them have that "perfumy" smell that to me just really stinks.

You might like the Jo Malone ones that are quite simple smell combinations, or maybe a rose-based one. Another I can think of that doesn't have that yuck smell is Acqua di Geo – the women's is quite sweet but you might like the men's.

I have some Elizabeth Arden Green Tea which I really like – it is light, barely-there and just smells nice, not perfumy.

I have also had Body Shop men's ones in the past but I think they stopped doing the one I liked (it was called "Of a Man"! Blush)

Both these are a bit citrussy, leafy and fresh.

You could try one of the essential molecule range eg molecule 01. Or one of the atelier cologne range Luke blois de blood. The reviews at fragrantica are good to help you narrow it down and get recommendations. LES scenteurs (online shop) is good for samples

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/02/2014 20:46

Prada Infusion d'Iris or Kiehls musk

GreenRedBlueYellowPurple · 03/02/2014 20:47

Essential oils!

PeriPathetic · 03/02/2014 20:49

Another vote for Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. It's my signature scent now after many years of failure. My skin changes most perfumes into something I can't bear, but this one doesn't change, isn't heavy at all and is lovely :-)

AnnabelleDarling · 03/02/2014 20:52

Acqua di Parma

Minstrelsaremarvellous · 03/02/2014 20:57

Thierry Mugler Cologne is exactly this. On line through selfridges. Please don't tell anyone else though Wink

Well if you know what "family" the mens smells you like fall in to you may be able to find a womans one within the same group. Info on families here

Oh god bless you allGrin
I will jot all these suggestions down and seek them out.
Very interested about the molecule suggestion. I had read about this, and am curious. Very few places seem to sell it though, I think I will have to make a special trip to somewhere quite posh to have a sniff.

Gucci envy me is worth a try

ForgettableTampon · 03/02/2014 21:20

Liz Earle no 15 is extraordinary

Dilidali · 03/02/2014 21:23

Coco Chanel. The original, in black box. :)

KellyHopter · 03/02/2014 21:27

You sound similar to me, I've always found it really difficult find a perfume I like.

I ocan only bear understated, fresh, clean scents. Usually trawl through the men's colognes but even there the 'freshness' is too fake smelling.

I'm still on the lookout for the perfect one but Clarins Eau Ressourcante is as close to it as I've found so far so I'm sticking with that for now.

rubyflipper · 03/02/2014 21:30

Jo Malone Grapefruit

Superene · 03/02/2014 21:30

L'air du temps, nina ricci. Modern scent smells dreadful on me, really cheap and soapy, even the expensive ones. Older scents that have been around for decades don't. L'air du temps has been around for a very long time. Try it.

BlueSkySunnyDay · 03/02/2014 21:30

The description of CKBE is

Heart notes - Peach
Top notes - Juniper Berry
Base notes - Sandalwood

Scent - Fresh

LittleBabyPigsus · 03/02/2014 21:31

L'Occitane Verbena?

BaDaBing · 03/02/2014 21:33

Try the clarins scents. They are perfumes designed to be neutralisers rather than over powering perfumes. I like the new jardin personally.

Sweetart · 03/02/2014 21:34

Paco Rabbane

NearTheWindmill · 03/02/2014 21:36

Give eau de lancome a try. It's very fresh and citrussy. Good old 80s fragrance.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 03/02/2014 21:38

Lyn Harris's fragrances for M&S? Le Cologne and Le Sauvage are unisex (I think!). Cheap and easy to try.
