what bra size now?

Hello there,
after lurking and following bra advice, I went to Bravissimo and was transformed from a 38d to a 32g - I have since bought some bras from the gossard online shop from the UK (I'm in france). They are a lot tighter than the bravissimo ones I bought, and the cups seems quite huge. So if I want to return them, should I go for a 34f instead of the 32g? Aren't all brands the same size? It's annoying as I have to pay international postage...

Unfortunately bras vary - they're a bit like jeans in that there can be major differences! It sounds like that may be right for gossard but I'd probably stick to your Bravissimo size as your starting point with other bras

helloeverything · 25/01/2014 16:29

I think I might have to admit defeat to internet bra buying - I can't get cups above a D in france in shops. I'll have to come over to the UK during sales....
thanks for your help

Which ones did Bravissimo fit you in? If you can tell me which styles I might be able to suggest others which are the same cut?

helloeverything · 25/01/2014 16:45

it was the alana bra. It fits well but I wanted to have something different.
the one from gossard was this www.gossard.com/products/Bras/Padded-Plunge/Colour-Clash-Half-Padded-Bra/Colour-Clas

I would also like something like this www.figleaves.com/us/product/go-5738/ooh/?show=1&noc=1

Ah ok, I have several Alanas. In general alana runs small in the cup, and about true in the back. I wear a 30J in an Alana, a 30H in Cleo, about a 30HH in most other Bravissimo bras and Freya/Fantasie. Curvy Kate I am about a 30J in their padded/moulded styles. My other favourite is ewa michalak, a polish brand. I wear a 30HH in those.

The strapless one - does it need to be longline? By far the best strapless around is this one by wonderbra. The sizing is a bit funny, most people go up a back size and given that you were fitted in an Alana I would probably go down 2 cups - so maybe try it in a 34F

It's not got the colour clash, but the Bravissimo satine is a good bra, and IME fits about the same as Alana.

helloeverything · 25/01/2014 19:52

Ah great, i'm going to give the wonderbra a go. I,ll try a 34f to begin with.
Thanks again

Not sure if this is a sizing issue or a style issue and wondered if anyone could advise. When fitting in shop (decent shop like bravissimo) bras appear to fit very well however after a few hours of wear I feel like they're not sitting in the right place, and if I remove them the underwire marks sit some way under boob. I've done an illustration Grin.

Don't know whether I need to try a different style or size? I'm quite full on top so balconette styles generally don't work.

what bra size now?
StatisticallyChallenged · 25/01/2014 22:15

Style. Some brands have wires which are a deeper but narrower u shape whereas others are shallower but wider. Have you tried curvy Kate or tutti rouge. Freya are quite wide too but not as shallow as those

SoulJacker · 25/01/2014 22:33

Freya never fit at all, although I think most Freya bras tend to be balconette style? I haven't tried the other brands.

SoulJacker · 25/01/2014 23:09

Sorry helloeverything, meant to post this on the bra intervention thread not hijack yours.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/01/2014 23:15

Generally people who are fuller on top like quite open topped cups. The problem is that there are a lot of bras being sold as balconettes when really they are balconies. Which bras do you have just now that you are having the wire issue with?

SoulJacker · 25/01/2014 23:23

All of them, panache andorra, porcelain moulded, harmony, tango plunge. All panache but never found any others that fit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/01/2014 23:32

OK, panache as a rule have very deep and tall wires. I think this is probably what's wrong - I'm guessing that the cup styles suit you but the actual wires don't. The other thing is that most of those are bandless styles (where there is not a straight band of fabric attached to the bottom) which are far more prone to sliding down your body.

Have you ever tried:
Curvy kate (their proper balconettes like tease me, thrill me, fleurty etc)
Cleo Juna
Cleo unpadded styles with bands (Marcie is a good example)
Anything by Ewa Michalak

SoulJacker · 25/01/2014 23:38

I think i've had a cleo before , was white with red dots, had really high wires at sides. Will look up what you mean about the band.

SoulJacker · 26/01/2014 12:22

I've had a look at some of those bras and they all look like the sort that fit fine when first put on but I end up 'leaking' over the top as the day wears on.

Incidentally browsing around for photos of those styles I looked on Bras I Hate & Love and there's photos of 30H there and looks nothing like my size at all.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/01/2014 12:54

In all honesty I don't think it's very easy to judge what you will leak over from a photo. I'm quite full on top and the same sort of size, but with narrower boobs I think. I don't get on with the curvy kate one because it's too wide for me, same with Juna. But the unpadded Cleos I have never leaked over. For me, if it's lower in the centre then I can tip over as my boobs are extremely close set but they are high enough to prevent it.

I don't look like a 30HH either - have a look at thebrabandproject website, it really shows how different the same size can look.

The other ones which are very good for full on top are Ewa Michalak.

I'd suggest ordering several to try on, and giving them a LONG try on around the house. It's the only way to figure out what works

SoulJacker · 26/01/2014 13:20

Oh, i was hoping for a magic trick that said do x and if no quadraboob then it'll stay like that. Grin

I've already done the ordering several to try on thing and made several visits to bravissimo, about 90% don't fit at all, and the other 10% look ok for a bit but have issues with leakage or the wire sitting too low.

Was hoping for a miracle...

The Andorra is my best fitting bra and it looks fine on but i still get the wire issue. Think maybe i'll just have to accept that without going custom it's the best i'm going to find.

Arunica80 · 25/01/2025 10:31

After going to bravissimo I went from 34dd/e to 32F/FF
