DH needs a suit...

jennimoo · 25/01/2014 13:54

My DH has just one suit, it was tailor made in Bangkok over 10y ago. Although I'm no expert I think it looks terrible and have said he needs to get a new one before we go to a wedding in April. He has agreed but isn't sure where to start. He wears a suit for work a handful of times a year so isn't looking to spend too much, but expects it'll be £200+
Any thoughts on where is good, and what is stylish but not likely to date too quickly?

my 18 year old ds has just got one from Next , wasnt too expensive and looks really nice

Snowdown · 25/01/2014 14:18

Have a look in M&S, their suits aren't bad at all.

My DP got a nice one from Debenhams recently, it was about £150. Quite a slim fit so looks classic but a bit trendy if you see what I mean.

I like Ted Baker suits, especially the endurance collection, if you are happy with the measurements the sales can be great like this

Starballbunny · 25/01/2014 14:32

M&S are fine, Next aren't as good quality and a bit slim fit.

Never bothered with expensive suits as DH is a techy. 90% of the time his jacket stays in the boot of his car. Often under a huge laptop bag Angry

Thanks for the info, will get DH to take a look at those. He's not keen on ordering online but I think it's a much better plan!

Do you live near any outlet villages, our nearest one is full of shops selling men's suits. You can normally get a good quality suit for under £200.

jennimoo · 25/01/2014 15:27

He is currently shopping using your ideas and links :)

DH got a gorgeous Ted Baker suit at TK Maxx recently

Jcee · 25/01/2014 15:30

My DP just had to get a suit for an interview and got one at M&S - was well under £200 including shirt and tie and looks great

BIWI · 25/01/2014 15:33

Definitely M&S - a really good range of both styles and prices. And don't do it online. It's really important that you make sure it fits properly. Even an expensive suit will look like shit if it doesn't fit.

jennimoo · 25/01/2014 16:15

He's ordered a ted baker one online but with free returns. A starting point at least! We can try to visit some shops as well but with a baby and 3yo it isn't easy and he wants a second opinion!

DH is tall and thin, and has had a few rags is from Jeff Banks outlet stores. He still fits his AR sale suit he got married in nearly 14 years ago, but it is deeply dated now.

BikeRunSki · 25/01/2014 16:22

Lol at rags! Should read bargains!

Starballbunny · 25/01/2014 17:06

Haven't had a suit, but our outlet shop has lovely shirts and ties.

jennimoo · 11/02/2014 19:06

As some of you predicted, buying online didn't work as despite careful measuring it just didn't look like it fit right, but hard to say exactly why...
So, where can we go and get someone to help? What are debenhams like for suits? I'm tempted to book a personal shopper session for him as I found it quite useful.

DP is tall and slim torso, but broad shoulders and long arms.

He's just bought a suit for about 250 quid from Massimo Dutti. They also altered it for him for free.

Could be worth a look?

Suddengeekgirl · 12/02/2014 07:08

I bought dh a load of work stuff from Moss Bros at the designer outlet place near us. Way cheaper than high street - even the same stock! Shock

jennimoo · 12/02/2014 07:11

Our issue is we need a shop who'll help with the fitting as both feel a bit clueless about what fits correctly and therefor looks good.

Suddengeekgirl · 12/02/2014 07:15

They were really helpful and knowledgeable about fitting when dh went (with me and kids in tow). I ran in and grabbed them this time as I knew what size dh is.

jennimoo · 12/02/2014 08:18

Thanks for info. We're near an outlet shop in portsmouth so might have a trip down there.
