Clothes for larger lady

Alibongo33 · 24/01/2014 21:28

Hi,
I am size 22/24 (pear shape).
Where do larger ladies shop for nice clothes? Say Debenhams, M&S, Next etc or similar but for the larger 36 year old. I'm too big to fit in their clothes.
Any ideas? Shops or net?

Thanks

littlebaby have you actually tried the mango range?

it does go to a size 24 btw

LittleBabyPigsus · 25/01/2014 22:41

I was told that it went up to a 22? Sorry if that's wrong! It is on the smaller side but def worth a go.

LittleBabyPigsus · 25/01/2014 22:44

Oh and H&M's plus size range is OK but is usually crap in-store.

theincrediblealfonso · 25/01/2014 22:50

deffo asos curve. i really dont understand why bigger people aren't catered to. surely it's all about making money and there's plenty of us about who'd pay it to get some decent clothes.

loflo · 25/01/2014 23:01

Asda does most things up to a 24. Cheap and cheerful Smile

I thought that the idea was to give ideas, that's all. Therefore as the OP asked for ideas I thought I'd give her some.

It felt as though you dismissed my useful input pretty thoroughly even though you were wrong and basing your commentary on fuck all knowledge of Mango tbh

Sometimes all it takes is someone to give their negative opinion or feedback and it is enough to put you off even giving something a try. If you have a billion other options that is fine, if not then I feel that it is rather less than fine.

I gather from your posts that you have a fairly negative pov regarding plus size providers and I fully appreciate that stance and cannot get my head around how hard that must be to deal with.
I wish that everywhere stocked a much larger range of sizes and lengths.

itsbetterthanabox · 25/01/2014 23:29

On their website mango go to a 22. Not for me but that should work for the op Grin

RonaldMcDonald · 26/01/2014 00:38

mango 24

itsbetterthanabox · 26/01/2014 00:56

So weird. When you go to plus size range and refine by size the biggest is 22 or XXL which is says is a 22. Maybe they are getting in 24s soon. Strange.

MrsCakesPremonition · 26/01/2014 00:58

I've been very impressed with Sainsbury's TU clothing up to size 24.

LittleBabyPigsus · 27/01/2014 07:36

Ronald I think that's a bit of an unfairly harsh response? I made a mistake and apologised. As it happens I'd seen the range on plus size blogs (and was well aware of the range actually) and there were comments about the small size range but had clearly misremembered the size they stopped at. I'm not sure why that's such a terrible crime. I'm sorry for not remembering correctly. I wasn't rejecting it out of hand because of any weird vendetta against you but because I didn't want the OP to have a range that wouldn't fit her recommended for her. Given that 'plus size' ranges can stop at a size 20 that's not unreasonable, I didn't want OP to be disappointed. If Mango's website are only listing 22s, given that they run small they may not be suitable for OP and it's only fair to point that out. She can try them by all means and if they fit then that's obviously great.

As for negative POV of plus-size ranges generally, it's not me wanting to be negative and I wish they were better. I have also positively recommended some such as ASOS Curve so I'm not sure why you seem to think I'm shooting everything down, I just want OP to have a realistic view of what's out there. I don't want to recommend places such as Simply Be - even though there's a big size range - because it's expensive and crap quality.

As another positive recommendation - as has been mentioned, Sainsbury's TU range goes up to a 24 and is true to size/generous depending on the item. I rate their multipack knickers and find a 20-22 fits me fine.

Blushingm · 27/01/2014 12:40

Tesco do larger sizes too

itsbetterthanabox · 27/01/2014 12:55

Matalans plus size range isn't big but they have a few nice things and good, long leggings. Also I think their regular range goes up to a 22 anyway so the op could pick from both ranges.
