Am I alone in really disliking animal print?

I really, really dislike it. I'm happy to see it on others but I just can't see myself in it. I got given a lovely Lola Rose scarf for my birthday but it's an animal print design so I'll never wear it.

Oh deary me. I think Rod has the edge over CaitlinConfused

Since Breton stripe was mentioned - what's Breton about a stripe? Did the Bretons invent it?

This is how you do leopard print.

I love animal print and it totally is a neutral. Goes with anything. Perks up the dullest clothes, instantly.

escargot · 24/01/2014 20:42

Sorry gin but that's a black and white photo - I doubt the original coat is black and white. It doesn't look good at all - I'm guessing it's actually a real fur :(

That's how leopard print was done once upon a time when it was de rigueur. This is how it's usually done nowadays.

escargot - good point. Most, if not all, of the fur from the 60s which is being held up on here as the look to aspire to, is real Sad

SirChenjin · 24/01/2014 20:45

Oh fucking hell ToysRLuv - what is that??

DancingLady · 24/01/2014 20:46

escargot course they did! They wear it with their onion necklaces and black berets (at a jaunty angle).

I think it's just a white (ideally boat-neck, long sleeved) T-shirt with dark blue horizontal stripes. It's a 20/30something mum uniform in south London.

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 20:49

Just to be clear, I don't do real fur - never have, never will. I only do fake or animal print.
That photos is from years ago, which is why it's black and white. I guess it could be real so bad example.
Here's a better example from last week - fake fur.

You tell me, SirChenjin! Confused

SirChenjin · 24/01/2014 20:53

I'm not sure I even want to try Toys Grin

Kate Moss looks fab in pretty much anything - but if you look at the photo I posted of Billie Faiers (whoever she is) then you'll see what the vast majority of people look like in leopard print. They see KM in their heads, the rest of the world sees BF/Rod Stewart/Bet Lynch Wink

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 20:54

Dancinglady Breton striped tops are definitely the mum uniform in south London (at the last count I had five!)

justdrankacappuccino · 24/01/2014 20:55

Me!

Just makes me think of Bet Lynch and Lily Savage...

Yuck yuck yuck!!!

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 20:56

SirChenjin I think the glowing white teeth, Tango tan and shades at night are also contributing to the 'look' in your piccy - bad all round!

Everything in moderation and all that.

DancingLady · 24/01/2014 21:02

Ha, gin, me too... They do go with everything (meaning a pair of jeans and low-top converse).

You leopard haters just need to open your minds... Me, my mum and my younger sister all have the same leopard-print beret (and my mum is 75). Sometimes we're all wearing it when we meet up. We look like a cross-generational Shangri-Las covers band (I tell myself).

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 21:09

It seems that the difference between people who like animal print and people who don't, is that the ones who do like it, really don't have a problem with the ones who don't like it!

Wear what you like! Stop worrying about what other people wear. Then you might have the time to pull your judgy pants out of your bum.

SirChenjin · 24/01/2014 21:13

Mmmmm...here's another. And I challenge you not to judge that look as being one better kept under wraps Mrsap Grin

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 21:18

Sadly I can't see your link but i agree with lots of posters, cheap animal print is not something I want, nor would I go head to toe or dress my children in it. However animal print in well cut, good fabric...what harm is it doing to the naysayers?

I guess I just don't expect everyone to like what I wear in the same way I don't like what everyone else wears. Big deal.

ODearMe · 24/01/2014 21:19

Dislike it immensely

Hoppinggreen · 24/01/2014 21:21

For me, only shoes.
I've got a pair of Dune pony skin zebra ones. Ballet flat leopard print ones from Crocs, kitten heel leopard print ones from M&S.
Would consider a scarf.
I wear them with smart black suits and think they look good.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 21:24

I fucking HATE a Breton stripe. Boooooooooorrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnngggg.

Ah. That's better.

I flipping LOVE a bit of leopard print. BUT a tiny amount. See, I wear a collarless leopard print silk shirt under a lose black jumper. Un-tucked with either black jeans or leather biker style trousers. All you can see is the cuffs and the hem. And I also wear Top Shops army boots with said leopard print. I would kick Bev Callards arse in this outfit. It rocks!

You naysayers are wrong. It just takes style sweetie(s)! Grin

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 21:24

Dancinglady totally coveting a leopard print beret now. FABULOUS.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 21:25

Oh. And I do hate leopard print shoes. Unless they are Brothel Creepers.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 21:26

Aarghh * loose. Not lose.
