Help me find some decent jeans - please!

I hate buying new jeans, it always feels like an impossible quest. I want dark blue jeans without any embellishments (no tears, sparkly bits etc). Straightleg or slightly bootcut (skinnys are not being considered). I really want good quality denim without too much stretch. Why does this seem to be so easy if you're looking for men's jeans but not for women?

I am a size 16 and 5ft 6. Any suggestions welcome. I don't mind spending a bit for the right pair as I live in jeans.

Thanks in advance

Debenhams have a sale on at the moment. Why do 't you order a few pairs for them to try on.

I always like M&S Roma boot cut jeans (I'm 5'8", 16-18,pear shaped), and Boden bootcut jeans( when reduced!).

Thanks. Sadly I've already ticked M&S and Boden off my list. M&S too strechy and Boden jeans, if they fit at the waist are always too baggy on the hips.

Will have a look at Debenhams though thanks.

I really want proper denim. The sort of quality men get with Edwin or Nudie jeans. Maybe I should just try some men's jeans!

Can you get to a Selfridges? Entire huge floors of jeans from the cheap to the expensive, you can try on loads and loads, take your time & get advice.

Go to Levi or an independent shop and use the assistants. They can usually look at you and tell your size and shape quite easily.

I find that the high street shops are so full of lycra that when they're washed they're useless, unless they're skinny jeans.

Uniqlo denim is great imho - nice and thick and not mucked about with. Under £30 a pair too, which is nice.

Thanks everyone. I'll be London next month so I'll try Selfridges and Uniqlo then.

The best ones I have had in last two years were gap - I've even had compliments and been asked about my jeans. They are dark demin and straight leg - fairly skinny but not too skinny. No weird stuff on them. Have washed well on low temp. Cost about £30. I've had £200 pairs before and these gap ones have been the best.

I love Matalan jeans - they are cheap as chips and I can wear them and get compliments. Also NYDJ are good, but order a size smaller than you normally wear. I used to love 7 jeans but I just dont want to pay loads any more, so Matalan are the old faithfuls.
