Should I blow nearly £500 on a faux fur coat?

I love it so
What do others think of the coat... I probably won't end up buying it because that would be pretty silly. But I might.

can't you get one in a charity shop for a tenner?

£500?????

Blu · 22/01/2014 14:32

Actually I rather like that coat - wouldn't do for me, but on someone young and slim and with the right hair cut. The way it is styled in the pic.

But no, OP, it is overpriced and would look manky once it was worn in a bit, and be a one-season wonder.

ROARmeow · 22/01/2014 14:33

I am LMAO at some of those photos.

Cookie Monster one was classic...

Beeyump · 22/01/2014 14:34

Yes Hello. I was making a joke re. the cookies. Smile

Sorry it's awful

Huitre · 22/01/2014 14:38

I absolutely love it. If you love it too, you should go for it. I once had a bright red fake fur coat that cost over £100 back in the 80s and I loved it to bits and wore it for at least the next ten years. I'd love another coat like that.

CuttedUpPear · 22/01/2014 14:40

I like it but I don't think it's worth paying that amount for.
Surely there is a cheaper copy somewhere?

Pointeshoes · 22/01/2014 14:42

Made me giggle! Sorry not my style , I go for classic purchases. Then cheaper items I know will go out of fashion.

Frozenatchristmas · 22/01/2014 18:24

It is the same colour as my dressing gown. I like the colour and I like my dressing gown but as a coat, no absolutely not. On first look, I also thought sully from monsters inc. sorry.

TheBuskersDog · 22/01/2014 19:01

As most people don't spend £500 on a classic wool coat you're not going to find many who would consider spending it on faux fur, even if they did like it. Obviously there are some people on here who have a far higher budget for spending on clothes and they may consider it worth the money, but I think they are in the minority.

PoshPaula · 22/01/2014 20:44

I have owned quite a few fake fur coats, going back to the early nineties and they have all lasted brilliantly. I have recently purchased one which cost £225 and I love it. I don't think I'd spend £500 though..... I prefer the second colour you showed but I think you'd get sick of it quite quickly (she's wearing that bloody coat again!)...

ShreddedHoops · 22/01/2014 20:53

I love it! It was in last week's Grazia and I googled it then as thought it was fab. There are quite a few good fake furs in Topshop atm in bright colours but the stripes are (for the moment) really unique.

But unless you have £500 which couldn't be better spent, then you shouldn't get it.

Beeyump · 22/01/2014 21:31

The conclusion I've come to is: no Shrimps coat. Delicious as I find it, I couldn't justify spending that much and also, as someone said, I might get fed up of it, quite quickly.

Wise decision. Sorry.

Beeyump · 23/01/2014 08:01

Don't apologise if you don't like the darned coat! Even if I do feel oddly defensive of it...

OP posts:
Kikithecat · 23/01/2014 08:59

Don't worry it should be in the sale soon.

AmberNectarine · 23/01/2014 08:59

Boo. I'm tempted to get it now! Having my personal style done by HoC soon. - if it fits I may buy!

Beeyump · 23/01/2014 09:15

Well, let me know how you get on with it if you do buy Grin A big part of me still yearns for it.

NO! If you are near London, go to Sandro in Notting Hill or in town. They have beautiful coats on sale from £260. They are simply gorgeous!

MarshaBrady · 23/01/2014 09:34

I think you should blow less than that on a coat that is vastly reduced in the sales.

ShreddedHoops · 23/01/2014 11:58

Wise decision. It will a) be at least 50% off in the June sales if not earlier, and b) hopefully be much copied and so not as unique very soon.

Although it is fab.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 23/01/2014 12:26

I would give it a miss purely because I think you will tire of it quite quickly. I have owned loud coats in the past and I don't want to wear the obviously same thing year after year.

ShreddedHoops · 23/01/2014 12:38

Topshop furry stripes to scratch the itch?

Beeyump · 23/01/2014 13:53

Oo, thanks Shredded - I do like the cosy look of that, and the stripes of course!
