I need advice on care/styling of brows. Am I supposed to brush or groom them? Apply eyebrow shadow etc?

I currently either tweeze or have my brows waxed at the salon. Due to underactive thyroid the outer third of my brows are a bit sparse and so I could do with some tips please Smile

I use this m.boots.com/mt/www.boots.com/en/benefit-brow-zing_857046/ and it's been a godsend after years of over plucking , you can get a nice shape with the wax and angled brush. Then fill in the shape with the other section.

I have this I just use the tint for a more natural look and use the pencil if I want to look a bit more done up. I also get my brows threaded - I would never go back to plucking or waxing now, they just dont compare with threading.

Thank you for those links.

Is there a particular technique to use? I am concerned about looking like I have a Scousebrow or "slightly batty with drawn-on brows" !!

I use a pencil and just started off using really light strokes to fill in the patchy areas, and built up the colour until I felt my eyebrows framed my face well without looking weird. Do it in natural light if you can.

Agree with Ray. I only have mine threaded and that Soap & Glory pencil is better than all the ££ ones I've tried.

What is the difference between the 2 ends of the S&G one? My eyebrows are awful, but I just can't get on with trying to do anything from them. Blonde too light and brown too dark or too red.

I do mine at home with my trusty tweezermans. I've let them thicken up the last couple of years, I'm quite hairy though so it wasn't hard to let them grow a bit.

Trim the very longest ones, pluck any from above that are mucking up the shape and a morning tidy with a (eyebrows only) toothbrush to groom them.

What you don't want is salon sperm brows, they don't do anyone any favours.

I also have a knackered thyroid so I dye my brows - a mild, but worthwhile, improvement. Kit about six quid, lasts for ages.

Thank you so much for all the info. Very much appreciated. I will go and check out the products recommended. Like Remus I have found the same issue with colour/tone when I have tried to "enhance" them before with pencils. If I go to a Benefit counter would they have samples of the powders? Although my feeling is that the powder may be less prone to reddish tones than a pencil?

My eyebrows are naturally quite thick - I am prone to a mono-brow - and I do get a fair few "stray" hairs growing above but was under the impression that you shouldn't pluck above the brow. I would like to have slightly thinner brows to balance out the lack of hair at the ends and also because it can open up the eye, no? (Am 43...I need as much "eye opener" tips as possible without resorting to botox). Perhaps tidying up above the brow will give me that?

Meglet - Grin @ "salon sperm brows"!

I've just read this back and would like to state that despite how it sounds I am not related to the Gallagher brothers.

I also use the Soap and glory pencil. I am blonde but use the "brownies" one as I like a strong brow. I get my eyebrows threaded every 6 weeks and use the pecil everyday-brush my eyebrows into place, use the pencil and then fix in place with wax from the MUA eyebrow palette.

HelloBoys · 22/01/2014 10:11

Pencil - I use the Clinique one in a sort of blonde color but the S&G one looks nice. and they have an offer on right now.
