Ruched Skirts

I fancied a change from my usual leggings and long top combo so thought I'd give a ruched skirt a whirl (wild, I know). Anyway, the point of this is that I was all poised to order that Hush one everybody is raving about when I saw one in Matalan for eight quid! bargain. I know it doesn't resemble it in the slightest in the link btw.

I would say it's def worth a go, to see if you are happy with the style. Could get the Hush version later, if you like, too?
I'm often surprised by the quality in Matalan, for the prices. Often their stuff seems much better than many other high street stores (especially tee fabric) that charge triple the prices.

Funnily enough, I also picked up a lovely heavy jersey dress for £14, you'd never know it was that cheap. The problem I have with the skirt though is what style top to wear with it Confused. I'm a short size 14-16 with a real c-section shelf of flab so feel conscious in a short top hence the leggings and long tops or dresses. I did buy some Clarks national spice as I thought they'd probably fit the bill boot wise and some wooly tights. Just stumped with the top really.

Is the Matalan one ruched in real life then? It doesn't look it at all in the link (though it does look nice). I wear the Hush ruched skirt with slouchy longish jumpers and boots or flats - have a look in TK Maxx, there were loads of gorgeous jumpers when I last went in. I feel a bit exposed wearing it with short tops, as it's tight and short.

People tree have a nice stretchy skirt too. Not ruched as such but same idea.

I have the £8 Matalan one - and I love it! Although I sized up - usually a 12 and bought a 14 because the 12 was hideous on me. I wear it with the Matalan 200 denier thermal tights which are so thick, my DH thought they were leggings. In fact, I was thinking of buying another...

NoGoatsToe · 17/01/2014 17:40

Forgot to add… I wear mine with biker boots and a big sloppy, fine knit jumper or else one of DH's heavy jersey Gap tops that is about 10 years old.

ToastedTeacakes · 17/01/2014 19:39

DavenotChas - I would wear loose fit jumpers over them, like this one at Hush

www.hush-uk.com/daywear/all/cashmere_oversized_jumper_cream_marl.htm

It seems to even out proportions nicely, something looser on top whilst shorter/tighter at bottom.
Could also wear a loose fit vest, blouse with longish cardi, if that's your style.

DavenotChas · 17/01/2014 19:40

Thank you all, sloppy fine knits are where I'll head to then Thanks Elizabeth it's double layered so Ruches up nicely, you really can't tell from that link but it will do the trick for me while I'm deciding if skirts are the way forward Grin

Toasted I don't really have a style, therein lies the problem... Your idea of vest, cardi layers would work for me though as I'd wear that over jeans or leggings anyway Smile
Nogoat they have it in grey too, go on...

Any one now what the sizing is like on the People Tree one? And would it be too long, given I'm a 5ft3 if I stand up straight short legged short arse? I have a code for them burning a whole in my pocket.
