Gap Jeans

Ok so I am currently a size 12 (to 14, depending on the day!) and my legs could best be described as thus:
trees have been known to actually weep with jealousy at the tree-trunkish-ness of my thighs. My arse is also fairly big too.

I need some nice dark blue smart skinny (ish) jeans and have been looking at Gap ones but have no idea if they are good for the chunky-of-thigh.
I like low rise too.
Are Gap jeans any good for someone like me?
If not any recommendations please?

I am exactly the same size as you, but I have thighs that would make the back row of the Welsh rugby team green with envy. Seriously. Not carrot-leg, or parsnip-leg, I am TURNIP-LEG woman. I find Gap Real Straight jeans in the dark-but-not-darkest blue wash both surprisingly flattering and reassuringly stretchy, yet not the hideous skinny-jean nightmare I would guess you're dreading because I totally was.

SirRaymondClench · 13/01/2014 21:57

Fig I actually think you are onto something there and should patent the 'Turnip Leg' jeans concept immediately. I would buy those jeans!
So Gap Real Straight sounds good.
What sizes do you think should I try for a 12-14 (other than Oak and Beech) Confused
I never really understand the 29, 30 etc system and the people that work in these shops are impossibly twig like so would probably be horrified by the thought of me trying to crap my massive arse into their jeans!

that should read cram my massive arse, not crap*! Confused

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 13/01/2014 22:33

Ha ha! Crap your arse indeed! I'm interested in trying these too, and am also 12-14 so waiting with interest to see what size I should try!

SirRaymondClench · 13/01/2014 22:53

Yes the twig like Gap workers would definitely not be happy about me crapping my arse into their jeans! Wink

Size people - help us!!

Actually looking on the site and these jeans look really nice!

Size 30 is a 12 in Gap. So that or 32 for a 12-14. Worth trying before you buy though - I've got pairs supposedly same style and same size that fit totally differently!

wildfig · 13/01/2014 23:01

Ah, those are the ones I've got! I picked up a 30/34 pair in the shop, as I am both long and turnip-like of leg - the internet-only 29/34 probably better, as they do give. Annoyingly, I think you have to try Gap jeans on, as each wash is totally different. Those dark wash ones fit nicely but the blacker/darker wash ones stretch out even more, which is bad news, as it cons my brain into thinking loose = ooh, I've lost weight without trying, might as well finish off this Christmas chocolate.

I'm not generally a fan of Next, but due to having a gift voucher to spend I had a look at their jeans and thought some of their "lift and shape" ones looked nice. They do a slim bootleg that looked nice.

In fact it's called slim leg, not slim bootleg

WhereIsMyHat · 13/01/2014 23:14

I am the owner of chunky legs and I like Gap Jeans but I would advise trying before buying a like a PP said, I have the same style in different colours that are different sizes due to one being stretchy denim and the other having no stretch. I find the dark blue in lots of styles very flattering as try get the shading just right which helps to slim the legs.

I'm also a big fan of uniqlo jeans just to put another brand out there.

Annianni · 14/01/2014 08:14

Try a couple of pairs in the same size in Gap, as they can vary enormously.

Also, try and size down as they tend to loosen up after an hour and you can end up with a saggy looking bum.

I'm curvy of leg and I just tried the new patched skinnys, which were ok.

I do have a couple of pairs of real straight too which don't fit me at the moment I'm a 14/16 at the moment and I have the real straight in 31's and 32.

When I'm a 14, they fit fine.

I tried the patch skinnys in a 33 (too big) and 32 (fit me but not keen on the pale patches)

So if you're a 12, I'd try a 29 and 30.

Annianni · 14/01/2014 08:19

Also, if you're trying in store and they don't have the size you want, ask an assistant and they will give you a free delivery code so you can order them online.

In the stores they sometimes only stock the full sizes, so 28, 30, and 32 etc.
But online they have the half sizes... 29, 31 etc.

Hth

LaTrucha · 14/01/2014 08:44

I have had the real straight and they are good but I now have these which are skinnier and like them even more. They are very flattering on me. I am a 12, 5.6 and generously thighed I take 30 waist 30 leg. The waist is too big but i was buying online when they had 50% off and the website kept crashing and i knew that I would definitely be able to get them on, so didn't care.

faustina · 14/01/2014 08:44

the sizing is completely random in Gap so you do need to try on a few things. Have a go with the sexy boyfriend jeans when you're there. They are very flattering on the thighs, and skinny-ish further down.

QueenCadbury · 14/01/2014 11:04

Yes as others have said sizes vary wildly in gap deepening on the denim used. I have had many fantastic pairs of jeans from gap and when they're good they're great. However sometimes they can really bag and sag easily. I have a pair that need washing after each wear as they go out of shape and stretch so much. Weirdly they are all 98% denim and 2% elastane so I'm not sure why they vary so,much Confused

smellslikemeanspirit · 14/01/2014 16:45

I'm a similar size to you with giant calves and love the sexy boyfriend jeans, have them in a size 30.

OhTheDrama · 14/01/2014 17:34

Love the real straight ones! I'm a 14 and the 32 is a brilliant fit.

SirRaymondClench · 14/01/2014 18:12

I am currently in bed with the manky cold DH thoughtfully gave me.
I actually can't wait to get my fat arse out of bed and drive to the nearest Gap now and try some of these babies on!
Jean shopping is usually my idea of a living hell because if you are tree-trunky-turnip-thighed like me it's almost impossible to get good jeans that look right.
Thank you for your suggestions! I love this forum!

I find in gap there are size variations in jeans of the same size, colour and style. I take several pairs that should be exactly the same info the fitting room to see which one fits best before buying.

gerbiltamer · 14/01/2014 22:18

I have a pair of grey Gap jeans in the skinny style. I am currently a size 16 and wear a 32 but they have really stretched since I bought them last year. The skinny style isn't really tight though and I have very muscular calves.

happyyonisleepyyoni · 14/01/2014 22:27

Another vote for the Next lift, slim and shape. High waisted so good for the muffin top, flattering and very comfy.
