£5000 to spend...

Great Aunt Maud has died at the grand old age of 105, she has left vast amounts of money to the local cat's home, amongst various other charities... plus some to buy memorial benches

Her dying wish was that you spent her money on a fabulous day out shopping... Maybe £10,000 would be better tbh...

She was a firm believer in having a good coat and shoes.

So... you must buy a fabulous handbag for daytime, an evening bag, coat, shoes and an amazing piece of jewellery.
(plus anything else you'd like with the change)

What would you buy?
no Chanel bags please

can I wear my gown to Maud's funeral?

forgotten how to do links in my excitement.
Obviously, should really study Valentino before settling...

Annianni · 13/01/2014 10:03

Great Aunt Maud would approve of satin gowns, and diamonds...

You can spend up to 10k, I'm feeling generous.

AmberNectarine · 13/01/2014 10:10

Ooh...

Botox
A nice pair of leopard print Rockstuds
A Givenchy nightingale
A Balenciaga city
Helmut Lang leather leggings
A Rick Owens leather jacket
An Elsa peretti bone cuff

And that will probably do.

dexter73 · 13/01/2014 10:11

You shallow bunch buying handbags and coats! I would buy half of this.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2014 10:14

Good one Anni.

I'd get two x trio
Lanvin flats
Spend a fair bit on going out and an amazing dress and heels to wear

GlassCastle · 13/01/2014 10:18

I would have a bespoke Smoking from YSL or other suiting from Savile Row. Made very plain with slim pants. Lasts forever, never dates.

Bonsoir · 13/01/2014 10:24

I'd get a whole outfit (dress, cardigan, coat, shoes, bag, jewellery, sunglasses) from Marni or Céline.

impty · 13/01/2014 10:31

Mmmm....

I'd try and combine a New York or Paris trip and a fashion souvenir with my pretend inheritance. Probably shoes... hand made in Paris and elegant, or some really cool trainers in New York...

I'd also be tempted to enter into the world of cosmetic enhancement and forgo the trip. This is the year of a significant birthday though and it's playing on my mind....

Otoh something sparkly might be better.... detract from my aging face! Grin

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 13/01/2014 10:32

Aiming between 5 and 10K

evening bag
shoes 1
shoes2
day bag not sure may be the red one
coat 1
coat 2
evening dress

overbudget dress but perfect!

jewellery: probably something from Georg Jensen but can't make my mind up.

bunnymother · 13/01/2014 10:33

I think I will need the full £10K, but that's OK, since the benches are already sorted, ditto the charities.

I'm a practical person, so this Art Deco diamond clip brooch that can also be turned into earrings, would be my first purchase. Just over £6K, plus taxes etc, but it looks beautiful, and excellent value: here. Actually, an Art Deco brooch would be a great idea as they aren't that popular, so you get a lot of diamonds for your dollar. Do look for ones that can be converted to a pendant or earrings.

Alexander McQueen clutch bag would be incredible, and presumably you'd have it for life if used occasionally? here or here. Variable cost, but around £1K for some. I'd also get one of his cathedral print scarves.

The lace at Dolce & Gabbana is incredible, so how about you get your Sicilian widow on here for £650 or a dress. Or go totally insane and get some of the embellished pieces.

Valentino looks about as sweet as Karl, but his pieces are divine, so how about some rockstuds here for £600, although I might prefer red

Joseph stretch leather leggings (a friend has them and they are amazing) for £675 here, too.

and a glass of something nice to toast old Aunt Maud with

AnnabelleDarling · 13/01/2014 10:53

Hermes Cape Cod Double Tour watch

Bottega Veneta Cabas bag

Floisme · 13/01/2014 10:54

Ok, 3 pairs of specs - doesn't sound exciting but I wear them every waking moment and at £500 a pop (that includes lenses) I can never afford a spare pair.

A coat - I've just been bemoaning that I shouldn't have been such a cheapskate when I bought my last one.

And then I think I'd go for something bespoke but I'm not sure what yet.

gindrinker · 13/01/2014 11:31

Can I spend it on a personal trainer?
And lots of Stella mc cartney adidas to wear while doing it?

Apatite1 · 13/01/2014 11:32

And screw the bench.

KeepTheCarRunning · 13/01/2014 11:34

Ohh can I join? i have simple tastes Grin so would go for a bottega veneta roma bag like this and this ring here as well as this one
Then I would buy a lovely wool maxmara coat in black, never dates... You probably wouldn't see much change for 5k then Grin

Floisme · 13/01/2014 11:36

This is the sort of thing I mean: www.theguardian.com/fashion/2013/mar/09/bespoke-clothes-take-over-fashion
I'd go for something unique that would bloody well fit me properly.

swooosh · 13/01/2014 11:40

A classic Herve Leger dress

some Loubs, but higher

A lovely bag from Prada or Givenchy or Chanel.

bunnymother · 13/01/2014 12:02

I totally agree, Flo, bespoke is my idea of luxury.

DH has his suits made and gets to choose the lining, fabric etc, and it is his own, unique suit. He attends appointments (dragging me along for my nit picking fussiness opinion) and has the tailor's full attention. His tailor isn't high end, but the process feels luxurious, all the same. I think it's how the high end fashion houses used to be.

Turquoiseblue · 13/01/2014 12:24

10k,
Well
this lovely shoulder bag
and this too
These because they re pretty and would go with lots
And maybe
for a night out with these
this coat

See and there s some left over for next season or some bling Wink

Floisme · 13/01/2014 12:25

Ooh yes, Bunnymother, the equivalent of a Saville Row tailor - that would feel like real luxury, I'd love that!

bettykt · 13/01/2014 12:26

good coat
now we're talking
LV stole
I know I know...
Issa dress
no price

I think I'm all spent out now! Just off to buy a lottery ticket.
