I've got a big occasion next week and I've failed to lose the three stone I'd planned on losing

I need one of those garments that squeeze you tight, is there one sort that works the best?

Thanks :)

spanx, down to your knees and up to your bra £80.

Felix90 · 10/01/2014 21:35

I have an under bust slip one from M&S which is amazing. It has straps so it doesn't roll down but you can still wear your own bra with it. Cost under £30 too!

MichaelFinnigan · 10/01/2014 21:52

£30 sounds better than £80

Though if I spent £80 I wouldn't be able to afford good do might lose 3 stone anyway

So, are spanxs worth the extra £50? Do they do more squeezing?

felix had yours got legs or is it like a tight petticoat?

I cant get on with spanx at all, found it so uncomfy.

However, debenhams do an amazing version - they go up under your boobs and down your thighs, but they are really smooth and seamless and comfy, with no fat hanging over anywhere either.

Spanx on offer here

I find Uniqlo shapewear good.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2014 22:02

Spanx super higher power, £30=odd quid

What's your big occasion? If it's just a meeting or something, then ok, wear something to hold you in. But if your occasion involves eating, or is an all-day affair like a wedding, I wouldn't bother. They don't make THAT much difference and the fat has to go somewhere - it will be redistributed somewhere else.

I say this from experience - I forked out on an M&S bodyshaper big pants thing for a wedding two months ago, and was horribly uncomfortable all through the ceremony and meal. At the party I was still so uncomfortable that I went and took the damned thing off. And was so glad I did. I didn't look any different and was able to enjoy myself for the first time.

I honestly don't find my spanx uncomfortable, but I have found others awful. I have those exact ones and frequently wear them to work...

MissBeehiving · 10/01/2014 22:06

Apologies for the double post Confused

The Debs stuff looks good Smile

Felix90 · 10/01/2014 22:10

Mine doesn't have legs, it's kind of like a tight slip/dress that comes just underneath my bum. They do lots of variations though and you can get ones with legs/shorts or ones that are like knickers at the bottom so you can wear them with trousers etc. Also it goes in to a V shape at the back and sucks all your back fat in!

I've never been able to get on with spanx either Sad

Felix90 · 10/01/2014 22:11

MamaMary I've always found every type of 'shape wear' really uncomfortable until I tried the M&S ones. Wore them all day at my sisters wedding last year and it was really comfortable! I was expecting to have to remove them after the pictures Grin

MichaelFinnigan · 10/01/2014 22:25

Gah what to do

Other than to stop muttering spanxses like gollum, which now I can't stop doing

The occassion is MY WEDDING!!! We're eloping so I'm just wearing jeans and a nice coat but my jeans give me the most terrible muffin top

The debenhams one looks to cover the right area

Although I do hear what you say about the fat having to go somewhere. I'm very very wobbly I had a baby nearly twoyears ago quite recently and although I can squash my flesh into a smallish area it just spills out over any kind of edge in my clothes

I wore spanx all day at my wedding and they were ok comfy wise, but I also had a strapless wonder bra and a corset dress so wasn't massively comfy anyway. Had nice marks when I took my dress off, not like gypsy wedding scars or anything. Wink
The do give you a good silhouette thou. Haven't worn them since as was pregnant when I came back from honeymoon.
There is a primark one you could try not down to your thighs thou. What about that jml top thing that's advertised?

goodasitgets · 10/01/2014 23:56

Maidenform do good shapewear, I have a pair of their leggings

Spaulding · 11/01/2014 01:15

I have one from M&S. A body type thing that looks like a swimsuit. It definitely holds you in. But I don't recommend it if you plan on eating, drinking or breathing. One time I wore it and it sucked me in so much that I actually felt really bloated and uncomfortable after a couple of drinks. When I finally took it off it was such a relief. And my wobbly baby belly spilled out and was super bloated from where it had literally been sucked in all day.

Now, if I really have to, I wear Primark control pants. They don't suck you in half as much as the M&S ones, but they trim my tummy up a little bit and still leave me comfortable. You can also get tights with in-built control pants from Boots. They were great, but stupidly overpriced for one pair and they only lasted me one wear because the actual tights part was so thin they laddered after a few hours.

getoffthecoffeetable · 11/01/2014 02:47

Why not spend the money on a really decent pair of jeans instead? You'll get lots more use out of them.
Lots of places do control jeans.
Congratulations!

MissBeehiving · 11/01/2014 08:47

Congratulations OP Smile How exciting

My high waisted Salsa jeans are very comfortable and banish any muffin top.

AmberNectarine · 11/01/2014 08:55

Yes I was about to suggest different jeans - I don't think shapewear will help significantly with muffin top.

MichaelFinnigan · 11/01/2014 09:06

ALL jeans look awful on me. In fact all trousers do nice got a long flat arse but I've got a coat I must wear and it will only look ok with trousers

Although clearly, what you are all saying about jeans makes sense....

KatoPotato you sound convincing

I might go for the m&s ones PLUS better jeans. Thing is the big event is next week, I live miles from shops so they have to be purchased online and jeans you really need to try on Confused

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 11/01/2014 09:09

I have had some success with M&S, whereas I don't get on with spanx - they tend to roll down on my waist.

High waisted jeans are fab for the avoidance of muffin top (take it from someone who also looks shit in jeans)

MissBeehiving · 11/01/2014 09:15

My Salsa ones have removable bottom pads Blush - they look my arse look about 20 years younger Grin

MichaelFinnigan · 11/01/2014 09:15

Sorry for these applying typos I'm on a phone and have got carpal tunnel syndrome so my fingers are shit

Ok, m&s shape wear plus jeans

Thanks all, this is a help

Off to google salsa jeans
