Am I too old for a parka?

My tedious search for a winter coat continues (I expect I will find the perfect one in April). Having thought I look a bit of a knob in a parka, I tried on the Barbour winter force wax one and it really suits me (not too long, not too fluffy etc).

DH, not exactly a style guru, thinks I will look a bit MDL and that they are for teens and twentysomethings and those of us in their mid forties should stay clear.

Am I too old for a parka?

I love my parka (44). It's three years old from Jigsaw but looks good as new.

Oh FGS! You are 40s not 80s. I'm older than you by a long way and have a parka.

But I don't like Barbour on most people- it's become rather chavy imo now. Hate to see women in their quilted Barbours with the gold logos, in the middle of cities. Fine in the right place- the country- but not the high street.

Im much older than you and Ive got a parka, when I was a teen my mother wouldent let me have one I was the one still in clarkes shoes and sensible coats at 15 my dd1 bought me one a few years and I wear it all the time.

Jaffacakes, i do live in the country, well in a small market town surrounded by countryside, so it's for the nursery run, walks and running to the shops. I commute to London one day a week and would not wear it then.

I sort of agree about barbour but I must have tried on 50 coats I didn't like, so might have to bite the Barbour bullet.

Parkas, like converse, seem to be something that women are always worried about looking 'too old' for. Yet round here both of those things are a staple part of the school run mum uniform.

Definitely not too old Smile

The quilted Barbours are fine for the high street because they are a fashion coat now more than a functional coat.

Just wanted to let you know that my parka has arrived and I love it. I went a size up after reading lots of reviews (tried it on in shop with work clothes so difficult to tell) and think I could actually have got away with my actual size, but I can pull the drawstring in and wear it a bit loose and if it's freezing wear a jumper, so not worth changing.

Excellent. I hope you will wear it defiantly
