Is this fashionable?

Hi, Im in my early 30's and am not a very high fashion person: boots, converse, skinny jeans, scarf, top and costume or fine jewellery.

Saw this bag in TK Maxx in a lovely tan shade and wondering whether others might consider that its too practical, for someone older and not quite fashion-y enough (not sure why I care also!).

www.wildejewellery.com/product/osprey-strasbourg-handbag-cross-body-bag-in-navy-nappa/

I think its quite "lady like", classic but not too fussy. Dh thinks its like a "man bag" that you'd see on a man at the aiprort.

I also like it as its leather, tan colour and 29.99.

What do you think? Not sure whether to return it.

Has anyone seen any real leather small cross body strap bag in tan which would fit purse/phone/wipes/anti bac hand stuff which is strictly no more than £40?

Thanks all.

I feel a bit bad saying it but I agree with your dh. Will have a look for others ....

Ribbonsandcurls · 09/01/2014 21:31

No, its fine. That's why I asked!

Definitely man - bag to me..sorry!

Something more satchel like might be better.

Have you looked on asos? They have quite a good sale....

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 09/01/2014 21:33

If you like it, go for it.

It's quite inoffensive and I don't think it's frumpy or anything. I don't see Man Bag tbh.

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/01/2014 21:35

Its quite classic I suppose but I wouldnt really say it was fashionable- sorry!

dexter73 · 09/01/2014 21:39

It's not very easy to find a leather bag for less than £40 is it? You might be better off sticking to the one you have already bought!

Ribbonsandcurls · 09/01/2014 21:43

I know Dexter! Could spend more but don't really want to. Max spend would be £75 which I appreciate is relatively little.

Zara - good colour

dexter73 · 09/01/2014 21:46

How about getting a bag made out of baby chicks instead?!!

dexter73 · 09/01/2014 21:48

Quite like this one. Is it brown enough?

MissBeehiving · 09/01/2014 21:49

Nice for the school run dexter Grin

Debenhams have some nice ones and a big sale on at the mo. Got my cross body bag from there and it's perfect

Yes, that's a man bag.

This is classic in style and colour, 100% leather and £65.

This style might date quickly but it's 100% leather, a nice colour, and £45 in the sale.

dexter73 · 09/01/2014 21:53

I'm actually starting to wonder if there is a space in my life for a baby chick bag. Realistically no!

MissBeehiving · 09/01/2014 21:57

Radley do lovely cross body bags - good quality for the money. Pricey new but good ones on ebay.

Ribbonsandcurls · 09/01/2014 21:57

The chick bag: you'd find an occasion for sure! I know a girl who would love that!

Thanks for all these suggestions. Have been searching in shops/ interweb for under £40 and have got nowhere, so need to stop penny pinching and compromising and set final budget at the dizzying heights of £75.

Woo!

Elizabeth, yes its about 20cm x 15 cm in real life, so quite small and can be put inside a big work bag.

I had a feeling it was too "classic" and perhaps plain!

OP I am a bit of a fossil obsessive. Good quality and quite cheap too, have a look on eBay.

Fossil Erin

I have this one Fossil Marlow £60 from the next sale!

Ribbonsandcurls · 09/01/2014 22:09

Oh that Fossil Erin is perfect. Need to see if it's in tan or even a brown shade. Never thought of Fossil but have seen their shop in our nearest city.

Get the Erin in the blue - it is gorgeous!!

Wenchelda · 10/01/2014 11:07

I'm no expert in fashion but i've just got this bag, which i love. 100% leather - its currently unavailable on amazon but i've had it on my wish list for ages and they do seem come back in stock quite soon:

Or the same seller has lots of different shapes and sizes too :-)

Ribbonsandcurls · 10/01/2014 21:51

hi, think im going to look at fossil store when im in the big smoke in a few weeks as have spotted a tan erin and smaller erin bag - either would be perfect. i'll call it a belated xmas present from dh.
thanks for all your suggestions.
are there any more places to consider?
