Boden Spring Collection: Who's Lost the Plot?

Me or Johnny?

Just received my 2014 catalogue. Despite having had a soft spot for some of Boden's vintage inspired styles and quirky prints/colour combos over the years the new spring collection has come as a bit of a shock. Seems to consist of an awful lot of the frumpier styles from previous years repeated in sickly brights/pastels, plus oddities like this:

Is it me? Am I not getting something? Missing ironic references (perhaps to 80s?)? Hmm

Aahh I'm really looking forward to my leisurely read of the new catalogue in the bath, it looks as if I will have a laugh this time :)

I'm a longtime Boden buyer but very selectively and they do sometimes lose it completely. Also they are better in winter methinks.

Just had a quick look. yuk!

I was thinking of getting thre bright green "rainy day mac". Is that bad?

Chesnutstuffing · 09/01/2014 21:06

Cunty - I like the green mac too.

Dreaming - think you're right about the winter collection generally being better than summer.

Maybe I'm a deluded old git but I did warm to the heritage mash-up stuff of the last couple of years, and the season Helena Christensen turned up she did manage to make everything look luscious.

Had previously seen clear water between Boden and say M&S in terms of style and quality, but there seems less clear differentiation now (especially as the knitwear in particular seems to have taken a nose dive in quality?)?

And talking of the gorgeous Helena, I really can't see her donning that jumper whilst sober, irrespective of fee. Perhaps there is an acid test here to suggest to the Boden design team? If you'd cringe a bit inside handing an item to her to try on, it probably shouldn't be in the collection...?

Still love their customer service and my bistro crops though.

I love that dress! The jumper is quite good too.

Sorry Grin

Eeyorish watch out, Johnnie will see you coming! :o

I've not got enough money to shop at boden, and I'm not sure the clothes El fit my growing baby bump! Phew.

I spotted a few things I liked, which is unusual for me. Quality not great but then it's no different to jigsaw whistles etc. It's all in the cut, if it's cut well and has nice fabric, I'll buy it and keep my fingers crossed. I don't strive for major investment pieces, I'm too much of a butterfly for that.
