Ex smoker. A little stressed this evening. Just found a packet AND a lighter. I have not smoked sober in 10 years...

Yeah I know now that this should be in health but smoking does affect beauty too right?

Don't do it!

spanishring · 07/01/2014 20:01

It does. Smokers have awful skin. Whether or not they realise it. No cream can change the yellow / grey pallor.

Don't do it. You've done so well to come this far! Hope things destress soon for you.

elvislives2012 · 07/01/2014 20:03

Not worth it!!! You'll get that horrible taste in your mouth and will feel guilty. Much better to feel smug that u resisted GrinGrin

RobinSparkles · 07/01/2014 20:03

DON'T! Think of how clear your lungs are, how much whiter your teeth.

Don't do it!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/01/2014 20:10

Noooooooooooo

Use the lighter to light some nice scented candles
Sell / Give the tabs away (or put them in washing up liquid so you can't smoke them)

Watch Holby

UsedToBeNDP · 07/01/2014 20:11

Smoking is a foul habit in every possible way.

Doinmummy · 07/01/2014 20:14

I know how that temptation feels. Don't do it. You'll be so cross with yourself. Apparently the urge only lasts a few minutes. Get busy doing something else, anything to keep distracted. Stay strong .

PurpleSprout · 07/01/2014 20:16

Think of the 10 years. That's fantastic to be able to say that. Then think of saying 'I haven't smoked sober in a week'.

If that doesn't work, think of yellow fingers and smelly hair. Bad skin and risk of gingivitis.

I got a coat from my DM who hasn't smoked for over a decade. DF still smokes though, albeit mostly outdoors and it was in a wardrobe in a suit carrier. I wore it and was conscious of smelling like a smoker within 20 minutes of walking around.

We laundered it twice before DP (who is even more smoke-sensitive than me) was comfortable that it didn't (in his words) 'reek'.

DontmindifIdo · 07/01/2014 20:24

So we're focussing on the style and beauty aspect? OK - are you over 30? If so, you will look cheap and tacky smoking. At a push, you can look a little 'old school glamour' or edgy smoking when you are in your early 20s, but once you get to 30, it looks pathetic, you can be wearing the most expensive designer outfit with perfectly flicky hair and carefully applied tasteful makeup, but with a fag in your hand, you look cheap and rough.

Even Kate Moss looks tacky smoking, if she cant carry off the fag in the hand look, normal woman have no hope.

And it'll give you wrinkles. And it'll make you cough. And it'll make you stink. (and then there's the whole cancer thing)

maudpringle · 07/01/2014 20:30

Eeew think of the smell... on your hair...your breath.
Think of your lungs suddenly filling with noxious smoke.
Think of the wrinkles..the horrible taste in your mouth..the sallow complection.
You can do itSmile Stay strong.

NewBeginningsSnoopy · 07/01/2014 20:51

Wow you are all very good! And convincing! I resisted the urge and was going to give them to my neighbour. She's not there but maybe I should put them through the door with a note? :-) I am getting ready for bed now (so unlikely to smoke one now) and it's true- the urge has passed. I am over 30 haha. Only a little bit though! I don't think there's any chance of me smoking any now after reading all of those posts!!!!

OP posts:
NewBeginningsSnoopy · 07/01/2014 20:53

P.S Kate Moss IS tacky. She used to be cool, or so we thought but now she is the Queen of Tack. Posing as a playboy bunny is the epitome of not cool. D'ya hear me Kate?

cloudskitchen · 07/01/2014 20:56

Noooooooooo. You will so regret it and yes definitely health and beauty. Sallow tired looking skin, bad breath, hair smells, clothes smell, yellow teeth, early wrinkles. I gave up 15 years ago. No going back Grin

monkeysmama · 07/01/2014 21:04

I hope you haven't lit up. I stopped years ago and had a few days of smoking again recently. I've been feeling ill since. You've done so well - put the cigarettes in the sink and soak them now.

NewBeginningsSnoopy · 07/01/2014 21:08

I can't bring myself to destroy them! I know they're little addictive fuckers but think of all the... Em... starving children? No. Em... people who might smoke them and further worsen their health... No. Oh ok then I will destroy them.

OP posts:
cloudskitchen · 07/01/2014 21:21

squirt the murderous beauty bashing little sticks with washing up liquid and bin the buggers!

specialsubject · 07/01/2014 21:26

don't. Pooh, you smell!

NewBeginningsSnoopy · 07/01/2014 21:26

Haha cloud kitchen I didn't read your post but have just filled a bowl of water in kitchen, added 8 cigarettes , squirted with washing up liquid for good measure and binned. Phew! Had my hair done today at hairdressers and everything for aforementioned stressful event tomorrow. I would have been so stinky! Thanks all! :-)

Good for you. OP this is probably way too heavy but - I never met either of my mum's parents because they smoked. I have seen pictures of them and know their names, but I didn't have grandparents because of cigarettes.

Do you have DC? You want to be able to see their children. All the stuff about wrinkles and whatever - yes I know this is S&B - but the important thing is - my mum never got to show her mother her first baby, and I never went to my nan's house, or bought her a Christmas present, or anything. Because she smoked.

Really hope that doesn't sound preachy, it just makes me so sad and I hope you can stay off the fags - you sound like you are doing so well Flowers

RevoltingPeasant · 07/01/2014 23:07

Sorry just realised that was incredibly self-indulgent and maudlin Grin sorry to rain in your light hearted thread and hope you know what I meant!!

Xoticdreamz · 08/01/2014 00:08

Good for you . Two words .... Cats arse . Enough to stop me .

NewBeginningsSnoopy · 09/01/2014 02:09

Revolting Peasant that was very interesting!

Smokers are filthy smelly bastards. Quite disgusting and totally disillusioned as to how smelly and offensive they are. If you go out to smoke and then get in a lift with someone I guarantee they're thinking 'you smelly twat'. Not even going into the health stuff. That's your choice.
