Nice socks (for women)

My friend is after some nice socks for her birthday. My go-to shops for socks are H&M, Next, M&S, but these don't feel special enough for a birthday... Any suggestions?

Is the sock shop still around. They used to do nice ones online or John Lewis for something more designer?

TK Maxx often do good socks .....

There is also that japanese place (forgot the name) there is one of their shops in Convent garden, who do wonderful tights and socks.

I love my boden socks - I think they have some in the clearance section, they even come in a box ready to wrap up!

I've had some great "posh" socks from TK Maxx.
