My Lips But Better lipstick - should I bother?

Hearing a lot of fuss about MLBB lipsticks, aka a nude that matches your lip shade, rather than being a generic beige colour. I'm not really seeing the point of it, to be honest - I usually wear bright lipstick with a low-key eye (often just mascara, sometimes simple black eyeliner) but if I want a nude lip I just wear lip balm. I'm a winter if that helps.

It's up to you!Depends what look you want.

I'm dreadful with lipstick due to many reasons, but have just got my first MLBB and love it.It should be a teency bit darker/more pigmented than your lips otherwise it's a bit pointless imo.

I got Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge (cream for cheeks and lips) in Powder Pink and it's just a little darker than my lips and looks fab- no make up make up look!

ElizabethBathory · 06/01/2014 16:28

Agree with TripTrap, my favourite MLBB lipsticks are a tiny bit darker and pinker than my lips and brighten up my face without looking like actual lipstick.

I think it depends on your lips as to whether there's a point - I'm a winter too and very pale, with equally pale lips. I look rather ill and corpse-like without lip colour, so there's lots of point for me! If my lips were rosy and pink like they used to be I'd just go with lip balm tbh.

TallulahBetty · 06/01/2014 17:50

Oh god yes totally worth it IMO. Mine is only a cheapie from Collection but it has been a revelation.

LittleBabyPigsus · 06/01/2014 18:28

My lips are quite dark, but a cool mauve-ish colour.

I love them. I think it makes for a more polished look.

I tend to wear less lip colour in the summer but at this time of year I need full on foundation/concealer/eyeshadow to hide my sallow skin it would look odd having no lipstick.

If you have a lovely pinky pout there's no need though.

I used to have a gorgeous Body Shop lipstick years ago which was 'mouth' shade, Can't find another to match it (or maybe my colouring has changed)

outforawalkbitch · 06/01/2014 19:25

can anyone recommend one for me? I'm very pale with green eyes. Thank you!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 06/01/2014 20:13

It's hard to recommend, out for a walk.It depends on the colour of your lips

outforawalkbitch · 06/01/2014 21:43

Oh well, worth a try (too lazy to go to an actual shop to look)Smile

dontcallmemam · 06/01/2014 21:45

out I like Clinique Blushing Nude.

CeliaFate · 07/01/2014 08:30

Revlon Lip butter in Pink Truffle is MLBB. It's quite sheer and looks natural but shiny and healthy.

AnaisB · 07/01/2014 08:34

Less-defined lips is a subtle indicator of age. I'd imagine mlbb addresses that. Have to say I've not heard of it though.

Whatfun · 07/01/2014 08:50

I was just about to recommend Revlon lip Butter in pink truffle. It's lovely.

outforawalkbitch · 07/01/2014 09:38

thanks for all the suggestions. will try revlon, as only £5 in superdrug

ElizabethBathory · 07/01/2014 09:57

Anais MLBB is just an acronym (v common on make up sites like Make Up Alley) for any lipstick that gives a natural look, it's not an actual 'thing'.

OP if you already have nicely pigmented lips, have you tried the tinted Vaselines in the pink or red tins? They used to be enough for me when my lips were pinker.

passthecheese · 07/01/2014 10:29

I like black honey almost lipstick from Clinique, it frightened me initially as it seems quite dark but on my lips it's definitely flattering. Plus it felt nice on my lips.

I also like the Revlon lip butter in pink truffle, one major benefit of the lip butter is that my lips didn't get chapped or dried out when I used them last winter.

outforawalkbitch · 08/01/2014 18:12

I've bought pink truffle and it's great. Thanks x

PoshPaula · 08/01/2014 22:34

Max Factor in 'Rosewood' is my suggestion.

Allthingsprettyreturns · 08/01/2014 22:53

Out try pink berry by EL or Boy by chanel

justasecond · 08/01/2014 23:52

Triptrap I also have the Bobbi brown lip and cheek thing in Powder pink, it is a great MLBB for me but fiddly to apply so I just bought BB uber pink 3 which is the same colour in a lipstick.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 09/01/2014 10:13

I may look at that justasecond, it is a bit fiddly to apply and I find it easier on the cheeks (but that took getting used to as it feels like it has more of a heavy gel base in it than most creams). Thanks
