Can somebody please talk to me about threading?

Enough is enough. The tash has got to go.

I've bleached it for years but I don't think that's fooling anyone anymore I'm never letting anyone near it with wax again after a stupid bitch beautician ripped off a large strip of skin. Had electrolysis for a while but it's very slow going.
So threading - how long will I have a big red lip for? Is there any danger of losing a bit of my face again/bruising/any other unwanted effects?
Would be much appreciative of any advice you lovely ladies can give me!

Get an epi stick, 99p from ebay! My best purchase ever, still get my eyebrows threaded but for chin/lip the epi stick is just as good, (almost) pain free, convenient and cheap.

I am no expert but I will recount my experience. Had tache threaded once at a pamper party. Have given birth twice without pain relief and it Hurt. More. Than. That. (Veteran of several bikini waxes etc so not a complete wimp).

That said, considering having it done again. Very quick and upper lip only trembling for about 16 hours.

Does it really hurt that much? Shit. For some reason I was imagining it not to be as bad as waxing. But as I mentioned, my last waxing experience involved a lot more trauma than expected!

I think it's just a very sensitive spot, at least on me. It may be that after repeated sessions one toughens up a bit. As I said, it is fast and I'll probably do it again. I keep walking past bored looking therapists in "threading booths" in my local shopping centre and think I should give them some business. Not sure I want to face the walk back through the centre with my lip buzzing though.

Ha! I'm not sure how women cope with the freshly de-tashed walk of shame either, I'd have to go to somewhere a bit more discrete (not in the window of superdrug!) within scuttling distance of my car!

I have my eyebrows threaded, and it makes my eyes water. If I pluck my brows it doesn't hurt, but I can imagine threading an upper lip would be very painful.

I get my eyebrows threaded, I don't think it's any more painful than waxing! Just pull the skin taught as it's being done!

Just thinking though, eyebrow threading is for shape and definition no? I'd have thought wanting the whole tache off wouldn't need threading?

If it helps, I have vair sensitive skin (eyebrow waxing leaves me with red eyebrows for approx 12 hours). When I have them threaded the redness is gone within a couple of hours.

I go for waxing and I've never found it too painful. Smarts a bit, but it's soon over. My friend has sugaring, which is supposed to be less painful. I haven't tried threading as every threading booth I've seen has been in the middle of a department store, and I don't really want my facial hair removing I front of a shop full of customers!

It also bloody kills BUT I wouldn't swap it for waxing now.

I get mine threaded, hurts more than waxing but I find it better for my skin. Only red for about half an hour.

Eyebrow threading - abit of eyewatering manageable pain

Lip threading - unimaginable agony!! Sooo painful, only did it once and managed to hold back the tears until I had left the salon!

I was told/advised that you only have about 3 weeks between visits.

It is uncomfortable, but I can't/won't pluck my eyebrows and for about £9, I get my eyebrows and upper lip threaded.

I get my eyebrows threaded and was thinking about getting my tache done too.

Then I read an old thread on MN and several people recommend the epistick. It's only 77p on amazon at the mo so I thought it was worth a try! I like the idea of de fuzzing in the privacy of my own bathroom.

Should add that it hasn't arrived yet but if it turns out to be a waste of money at least it won't be an expensive one!

Recovery is really quick. I have my eyebrows done regularly and tash for special occasions! I think the real difference in comfort is that the warm wax helps to relax the skin a bit more.
Not as painful as childbirth but then I managed a 9lber with no drugs!

I get my top lip and eyebrows done and it the top lip really hurts. I combat it by having it done very regularly so each session doesn't take long. Same with eyebrows.

The redness goes very quickly. I have had mine done in the shopping centre and continued shopping with no one giving me a second glance.

Threading all the way! It stings the first few times. But it's very thorough & over quickly. Wouldn't ever allow someone to put hot wax on my face

But I need to know what it is!

Ilovemydog - threading is where they remove the hair by grabbing it between twisted strands of cotton. I think it originated in Asian communities.

Sounds like a random way to pull out a lot of small painful hairs.

I don't think I'll be trying it anytime soon. I'll stick to the tweezers. Never had a tach thank goodness.

I've had eyebrows threaded and would do again as gives a great shape but is painful so wouldn't bother for upper lip. To de-tache I use DIY wax strips which I find cheap easy and quick and not that painful.
