Wedding outfits for boys?

We're going to a family wedding at the end of March. I have a 5 yr old DS and am not sure how to dress him. I don't like boys dressed as mini-men so don't want to go down the suit/shirt-tie/waistcoat type thing but don't want him to look like scruffy. Any ideas?

I'd put him in a shirt and a pair of cords. My boys don't normally wear shirts because I can't be arsed to iron them but they each have one nice shirt which I deign to iron for parties or smarter events. DS1 is 5 and his is a lovely pink and white striped Boden affair.

Shirt or polo shirt with knitted tank too plus cords is smart & comfortable for boys. Zara has good smart stuff for boys without the suits or Monsoon/Boden.

Thank you. He has plenty of cords (from Boden). I did look in Monsoon but it seemed a bit mini-suit. I never go back into Zara so I'll check that out. Thanks.

I did the following or ds, it was fun and approprite, I also don't like mini men!
Bright chinos (Zara/next)
Tweed look waistcoat
Converse Velcro
Shirt & tie
Quite smart casual
Ds was 2.5

DS has always had linen trousers or shorts plus a waistcoat & linen shirt from Monsoon for these occasions that he's worn with bumpers/converse.

But, they don't have any right now, it's all 'stuffy' wedding wear.

I would wait a little while until they get the spring stock in.

I'd dress mine in chinos of some variety and a shirt and if they insisted (very likely) I'd let them wear a bow tie.

H&M do some nice boys shirts for very little money.

Oh and a fine knit v neck jumper or cardigan if it is cold plus a coat for outdoor bits. Shoe wise probably desert boots or something similar but I think kids can get away with converse style shoes at a wedding.
