Where do you do your makeup?

I have recently discovered makeup! Hurrah! I had my HoC colours and style done and now feel like makeup is a pleasurable part of my morning routine rather than something I need to do to conceal spots. Blush

BUT I don't think I want to do it standing in the bathroom while the children run in and out and so on. They are 9 and 7 so it won't be long until the one upstairs bathroom gets very much in demand by preteens.

I think I want a spot in our room near the window where I can set up a sort of vanity station. I think I need a storage area (much bigger than I am used to!), a mirror and maybe even somewhere to plug in a hairdrier. Shock I feel all excited about this! What do you all do?

I sit on my bedroom floor with my basket of make up etc in front of my tall mirror. Not very glamorous sorry Grin Maybe I should invest in a stool lol.

Spottybra · 30/12/2013 18:42

In the bathroom with the dc running in and out demanding I do theirs too.

butterfliesandflowers · 30/12/2013 18:47

DH bought me a stool and mirror for my dressing table so I now use that instead of trying to use a steamy mirror! - lots of storage too!

BuckBuckMcFate · 30/12/2013 18:49

I do mine in the kitchen. It joins onto the family room and I can be tucked out of the way and still supervise dc and issue instructions re breakfast and getting ready. I have a mirror on the wall next to a window. I have a small shelf under the mirror to put bits on as I'm using them and I have commandeered two large drawers on the wall one for hair dyer, straighteners, brushes, combs and the other for makeup bags, perfumes, deodorant, cleansers, nail polished etc.

In my fantasy world I have a beautiful dressing table with lots of storage compartments for everything but there would be carnage if I left 4DC unsupervised in the mornings while I got ready. Kitchen isn't really ideal but it is the most practical.

Twinsplusonesurprise · 30/12/2013 18:51

Same as spottybra
But with baby DS usually grumbling too.

PiperChapman · 30/12/2013 18:53

Sat on my bed

inamerrymuckingfuddle · 30/12/2013 18:56

Sometimes in the bathroom (ensuite) sometimes at the window (for light) sometimes sat on the bed, sometimes at the breakfast table, sometimes in the car (at traffic lights)

lifesgreatquestions · 30/12/2013 18:59

Bathroom. I sit on the toilet, straddle it actually, as there's a good shelf behind it that holds my mirror and goodies and is right in front of a window for light... when it's not winter. I have to be near a sink as I don't like all the goop on my hands.

buttercrumble · 30/12/2013 19:19

In the bathroom with everyone popping in and out

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 30/12/2013 19:31

Sat on the sofa with my morning cuppa!

namechange74 · 30/12/2013 19:34

in front of the kitchen window. I use the kitchen dining table drawer for all my creams etc

Coumarin · 30/12/2013 23:03

I have a little dressing room. It was the smallest bedroom/box room and was being wasted. I have the white Hermes dressing table and mirror in there. (+ floor standing mirror, drawers and wardrobe) I love my little room. Smile

FunnysInLaJardin · 30/12/2013 23:06

at my dressing table in my bedroom right next to the window. All my stuff is there and the DC know not to touch as it is precious!

CointreauVersial · 30/12/2013 23:37

Same as Funnys.

Misssss · 31/12/2013 07:04

I have a big dressing table with draws down each side. A nice chair and acrylic storage. Loads of olug sockets and fairy lights. I collected pretty glass things where I store brushes etc. it's lovely, my own little haven.

IAmNotDarling · 31/12/2013 07:26

Anywhere I get a chance and two free hands! Normally sat in the car whilst parked up outside work or in the loos. Never in public transport though, never!

In an ideal work I'd be a sat at a nice vanity table.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 31/12/2013 08:24

Oh, thank you everyone! Seems like doing it in the midst of chaos is completely normal. Grin

madmomma · 31/12/2013 08:49

Yup. In total chaos, with toddlers rummaging and asking to share Hmm
I'd love to find the right light to do my make-up in but it eludes me.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2013 08:54

Sat on the bed with a stand mirror on the windowsill for hair and make-up. Not enough natural light or storage in the bathroom.

Tkmum23 · 31/12/2013 08:55

In the car when stuck in traffic!! Have 5 yo and 3yo who are dying to get their hands on mums make up!!

JemimaMuddledUp · 31/12/2013 08:56

In the bathroom because it has the best light. Also I like to be near a sink.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 06/01/2014 14:38

Okay, we have just swapped our room with our son's in order that I can have a dressing table and extra wardrobe, all thanks to the ladies on the S&B board Grin. I'm exhausted. Son very excited about his new room. Hmm

I have nicked our daughter's desk (don't worry, she never used it) and a spare dining room chair and just need to get a cheap dressing table mirror from Argos. Need one that I can put close enough as I have terrible eyesight and usually stand about three inches from the mirror in the bathroom.

I have filled the drawers with makeup and hair stuff and jewelry Blush and now need to organise them - will probably use shoeboxes for now. I'll also need to commandeer a bin, a box of tissues, a pot for makeup brushes, and an extension lead so I can sit there and blow dry my hair like an actual LADY. What is happening to me!?

OP posts:
ElizabethBathory · 06/01/2014 16:29

Sitting on my bed facing the window - it's comfy and has the best light!

ElizabethBathory · 06/01/2014 16:31

Sorry, just realised this thread is quite old. Your vanity station sounds great Face! I'd love a vanity table but there is no room in any of our bedrooms.

Felix90 · 06/01/2014 16:33

Sat on the floor in front of my long mirror or sat on the bed facing the window.

I used to have a dressing table with mirror set up but we have now moved house and had a baby, and where my dressing table was meant to go is now where the changing table is Hmm
