Anyone use Mac Make Up?

Waitingforsherlock · 30/12/2013 10:40

I'm looking for some new make up after realising that most if my stuff is older than my kids, ( the eldest is sixteen...), so I know that it is really past it's sell by date.

I've looked on Mac's website as I really fancy some eyeshadow from there, pref in a palette. Any recommendations? I want something for daytime in browns and creams, not sparkly but subtle. I'm very pale skinned with dark hair. If anyone knows of ther brands that are better please let me know.
TIA

The Urban Decay 'Naked' palette always gets good reviews for daytime eye colours.

HelloBoys · 30/12/2013 11:34

Bobbi brown are also fantastic.

Dumpylump · 30/12/2013 11:34

If its browns and creams you're looking for then yep, Nars Naked palette is definitely the way to go. I think there are actually 3 versions of it now, all with slightly varying shades.

Urban decay eyeshadow is fabulous. I have mac too and the ud kicks its ass. The naked palettes are fabulous as are the bolder ones like vice

If you like MAC stuff book a lesson (£25 which is redeemable against product),buy one of their empty quad palettes and ask the MUA to pick 4 complementary eyeshadow shades for you. That way you get 4 colours that you really love and will use Grin

I love the powders and blushes. Eyeshadow is good but I prefer Urban declay.

christmasnamechange · 30/12/2013 12:29

MOOMINCOW - is right that is DEFINATELY the way to go!

This whay I do!

I Do a purple pallet - wear a lot in the day
I do a night purple paller - for evening make up
Browns day - work

etc. I have 6 in total

Thanks xmasnamechange!

Oh and OP if you want subtle ask for the Satin finish eyeshadows. Matte with a hint of sheen rather than sparkle.

The UD palettes are great, but they can be a little shimmery and glittery. In my make up kit (I'm a sometimes mua, don't do much these days) I use a lot of Mac and Smashbox. My favourite Mac eyeshadows (depending on what colours you prefer) are woodwinked (beautiful metallic gold) shale, brûlée, satin taupe, brun, and era. Patina, mystery and vanilla are also worth checking out.

Also the Smashbox Softbox palette is beautiful, really soft, with great pigment.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. My eye shadows are both by Seventeen because I'm still buying the brands I used in my teens. Really is time to invest in some great make up and a lesson sounds a great idea too. Just got to get rid of all the chocolate induced spots first.

They do a small matt urban declay eyeshadow palette for around 20 pounds?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2013 17:13

For browns, I don't think you can beat Urban Decay Naked. The matt one would be best for you.

For individual eyeshadows, Mac are v good. My favourite shade is Shale, which is a soft grey.

Another vote for Urban Decay Naked. I'd mix and match brands - cheaper mascara, blush, lipgloss, powder then more expensive foundation and lipstick.

Waitingforsherlock · 30/12/2013 22:07

Thanks everyone. I've just had a bit of a splurge and bought: Urban Decay Naked Palette, the one with the fewest shades, an Urban Decay eye primer, Blankety lipstick by Mac and a Benefit mascara. Reassessing horrid make up bag filled with stuff that's been broken by my dd's and your suggestions inspired me. Thank you all
