Scalp! Help it's dry and flaky but

But it also gets oily really quickly and is spotty!
I've tried:
H&S which left build up.
Body shop Ginger which doesn't feel like it cleans well.
Vosene which helps with grease and spots on scalp but make it flake more.
Going sulphate free didn't help either.
What to do?

I think you need polytar! But they don't make it any more

Have you tried neutrogena t gel? Or baby shampoo?

I found Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner saved my scalp.

And avoid all styling products for a while.

Alpohsyl? Sorry might not have spelled that right but it's what DP uses for his spotty flaky scalp and it's worked wonders.

You need the old Loreal anti dandruff shampoo in the dark blue bottle which they have rebranded as men's intensive anti dandruff, dark grey bottle with orange lid-exactly the same ingredients.

Did you try sulphate free in conjunction with silicone free? The two need to go hand in hand.

Strip the silicones out with a sulphate containing clarifier and then use silicone free conditioner.
It won't be an overnight success but give it a week or two and you should see a long term healthy scalped difference.

I would try to rinse your shampoo with warm nettle tea and make a treatment with thyme and lavender essential oil mixed in some almond oil. Leave it on for a while once a week.
Also it would be good to find out what your problem is exactly.

Do what ILoveGlyfada says but add cade essential oil (only need a few drops as it is strong). It's what makes Lush's anti-dandruff shampoo bar work.

Also agree with going sulfate and silicone free. Try Palmer's - yes, Palmer's make shampoo! You can get it on ebay/amazon or in Afro-Caribbean beauty shops. You can get coconut, olive or cocoa butter versions, I prefer the cocoa butter one. You get a massive bottle for about £3.

I have your exact issue (well, I had) and you must try apple cider vinegar on the scalp. It doesn't smell brilliant, but if you pour some on after you shampoo, leave a minute or two and then rinse, you will never have a problem scalp again. Amazing stuff.

Cutting out dairy helps, too.

Would also recommend loreal elvive intensive. Black bottle orange rim men's shampoo. I have psoriasis and scalp is sore and flaky but works a treat!

Try the t-gel with salicylic acid in, rather than tar extract. It breaks down the grease and helps the flaky build up to be released.

Another bite for the Dead Sea Spa Magic stuff. It is totally brilliant and saved my scalp last year. It was it by, dry and spotty. Totally sorted it out.

Silicone and sulfate free made a huge difference to my itchy dry scalp. But the best thing is my denman shampoo brush- I use it to work the shampoo in and exfoliate the scalp. I notice a big difference if I don't use it when I wash.

Lush used to do something called snake oil which my dh used and it worked wonders for him and he had same symptoms as you. Not too sure if they still do it now though, am going back like 6 years ago.

The flakes are caused by fungus. IMHO (and bitter expensive) experience, the only shampoo that works is Nizoral. Totally sorted out my awful scalp.

I had a problem with this and after trying pretty much everything I ended up buying A'kin shampoo and conditioner for very sensitive scalps. www.mypure.co.uk/brand/akin/akin-hair-care-b2 It's quite expensive but my scalp/hair went from flaky, spotty, itchy and greasy to clear, soft and shiny within two weeks. I used to have to wash every day too but now it stays fine for days at a time which negates the expense of the product.

Another vote for Philip Kingsley itchy scalp one. More expensive but fantastic. The only one which cleared up my daughter's dry scalp and I tried everything!

For a dry scalp, I find Oilatum shampoo really good.

Worth going to the doc to check you don't have sebhorraic dermatitis- I once had v bad flaky itchy scalp (particularly around hairline) and that's what it was. Prescription cream sorted it out and hasn't recurred.

Massage your scalp, this increases blood flow to the scalp. It also helps clear any blocked pores, and that can release the scalp’s natural oil. A scalp massage also loosens dead skin cells, making them easier to wash away.

Since I've been using organic surge shampoo, my dandruff seems to have disappeared. Might be worth a try?
