Nails breaking very low down :(

I've always had thin, flaky nails that broke easily so have had gel/acrylic nails for ages. I stopped having them about two years ago and my nails are better than they used to be (don't split in two layers) but they have started tearing really low down meaning I have to trim them v v short to stop the whole nail catching and coming off. They look awful!

I've tried Sally Hanson, OPI nail envi, mavala scientifique and Nailtiques-none of them have helped!

What can I do?

I can't suggest much, mine do the same but that's due to a medical condition I have. Have you had any tests for vitamin deficiencies? lack of or low levels of certain ones can have a bad effect on hair, skin and nails.

I bought these a while ago as I read they helped but didn't get around to taking them as Nail Envy did help me. They may be worth a try?

(I would send you mine but they seem to have disappeared)

I have had some success using the CND Solar Oil.

Some people make their own cuticle oil, and some just use almond oil on its own and say it works just as well as CND.

This stuff has transformed my nails.

That looks good, whonickedmyname. What were your nails like before/afterwards?

I agree with OneLittleLady take a look at your diet. my nails are always healthiest when I'm eating a lot of salmon, avocado, fresh fruit and veg etc. I also rub rosehip oil on my nails before bed.

My nails were awful before fedup, they were really dry and I could peel layers off each nail like an onion.

I tried everything including all the usuals, OPC, Sally Hansen, Mavala, etc. Nothing worked.

I was told to stop filing them - use only nail clippers and keep them short until they get stronger, which i think really helped. I use the l'occitane stuff about 3 times a day.

It took about 3 months for my nails to look half decent and now they're really strong and now Ive got long natural nails for the first time ever.

Big jar of coconut oil and massage into nail at least twice a day-this transformed my nails after a year if them splitting in less than a week.

Oh and I stopped using a crystal nail file, just used an old fashioned emery board.
