A bit tempted by this in the sales:

www.modalu.com/shop/sale/dickens-large-tote-bag.html

Usually not a Modalu fan because of their flash hardware- eg on the Pippa - but this seems reasonably restrained. (Except perhaps for purse, which I don't have to use). Haven't seen it in RL though.

Want a bag for carting books, etc to and from school. Should I get this or just invest in a new version of my old favourite Longchamp Pliage?

PS Was intending to get in black, I think, though might consider tan if not too orange.

It's nice, but I prefer flat shoulder straps - those rounded ones really dig into me.

AlwaysOneMissing · 20/12/2013 22:02

I think it's lovely.
I had a modalu bag (a different style though), it was really nice, I had loads of compliments on it. Unfortunately the buckle was heavy and it ripped the leather so I returned it but they were very apologetic and customer service was great.

ShreddedHoops · 20/12/2013 22:15

I think it's lovely. Perfect work bag with the zip along the top - lots of totes don't have zips which is annoying if you have a laptop or piles of crap to fall out. Not a fan of the Pippa, too stuctured for me, but that one I really like. I just spent £250 on an outlet AH Huxley tote which is a similar shape. Prob should have waited for sales.

polyhymnia · 20/12/2013 22:24

Agree zip a major plus. The Russell and Bromley Willow one I liked didn't have one which made me decide not to buy in the end.

Also agree on Pippa being too structured as well as having metalware that's too 'gold' for me.

Would those of you that like it stick with black or go for the tan ?

The tan looks classier. Unless of course you team it with a matchy matchy dress as in that picture!

polyhymnia · 20/12/2013 22:52

Yes the pic is ghastly - reminds me of all my doubts about Modalu!

Bump for any further views - or votes between tan and black please.

I would get black as I'm not a fan of tan.

BringMeTea · 21/12/2013 10:34

Any good?

Both colours are nice and would go with a lot of the same things. I'd probably choose the black as it looks a little more chic. I usually prefer tan but not quite as keen on this camel colour.
Let us know if you order and what you think of it OP!

AmberNectarine · 24/12/2013 15:40

I like both - I also like the little horse but I love a bit of hardware, me.

polyhymnia · 24/12/2013 17:59

Thanks for views.Still thinking of getting it post Christmas - leaning towards the black.

Not v. keen on the horse bit but that doesn't have to show.

Know I'm being a bit inconsistent there as DS's DP has introduced me to Bimba and Lola bags etc which I love . And they have a greyhound on all their stuff. But it's pretty understated, IMO.

It's nice but if you don't like part of it, I wouldn't get it - it will bother you.

I just got an AH bag from the Outnet - similar style - obvs not arrived yet, but they have some good deals.

RooneyWanderingStara · 24/12/2013 18:03

here

They seem to have a few similar styles still.

polyhymnia · 24/12/2013 19:00

That AH one seems to have sold put now. But I do like her bags - have always wanted the zip satchel one - so will also browse to try and find a reduced tote from there.

I'm not too worried about the horse-y purse on the Modalu as I'd probably just detach it completely, unless I was pleasantly surprised by it. Think I'll be using bag as a tote for books, laptop etc rather than a handbag and anyway it does a zip pocket.
