I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting old or if everyone else has no style sense but there are a few things I see poeple wearing nowadays and it just makes my think "OMG...go home and get changed!!"

1)Mostly a teenage thing I think but footless tights with short mini skirts.....what on earth is all that about???

2)Racer back vest tops with bra straps showing!!
Errrr is it too much to wear a strapless bra??

3)White t-shirts/tops/vest with black bras underneath!!
It's just wrong!

I'm sure there are aload more too.....

spot on carmenere....you're not meant to understand!

meowmix · 18/07/2006 10:26

agreed on the work clothes thing. There's a girl here to day wearing what I believe is called a bandeau top (strap across the norks basically) and hotpants. She looks amazing (bitch) but hardly screams "I'm a highly intelligent professional who can advise you about your business"

(yes am jealous)

(I was a goth too. Nowadays apptly we'd be called EMOs)

Jazzi · 18/07/2006 10:28

EMO - what does that stand for?? (Forgive me I am getting old and very uncool!!)

southeastastra · 18/07/2006 10:33

emotional

meowmix · 18/07/2006 10:34

its short I think for emotional but don't remember thedetails, basically teenagers who feel too much emotion, dress in raggedy black and as a group tend towards introspection and writing angsty, tear stained poetry. at extremes leads to self-mutilation etc.

Jazzi · 18/07/2006 10:35

God how depressing - I was never like that, just liked the boys with long hair - and it annoyed my dad!!!

flutterbee · 18/07/2006 10:36

City shorts to me are still the most disgusting things. I actually saw someone wearing them on Eastenders so surely now people will stop wearing them.

southeastastra · 18/07/2006 10:37

as if all teenagers don't feel emotional hehe!

they are sort of gothy but don't dress in all black - don't think self-mutilation just occurs in the emo camp either

LiliLaTigresse · 18/07/2006 10:40

I do like the footless tight/mini-skirt combination on teenagers (pretty slim ones though...), looks cool but still feminine
Saw a girl wearing that the other day with a short leather jacket and she looked fab
However I think it would look horrid on a grown woman

Blackduck · 18/07/2006 10:41

The 'work wear' one is my bugbear too...please shorts, sandels and a wrinkled linen shirt (on a man) is NOT professional in an office setting......
Bras showing, knickers showing (in partic thongs) Yuckkkkk...
Also HATE city shorts - they are SHORTS sticking the word 'city' in front of them does not make them sophisticated.

Jazzi · 18/07/2006 10:42

Thongs with the jewellery on....YUK!!!!

LiliLaTigresse · 18/07/2006 10:43

I do also like city shorts, saw quite a few in London the other day and most women looked great in them, can't quite see why they're so offensive, particularly as office wear (but not with flip flops of course...)

welshmum · 18/07/2006 10:45

I sometimes long to set up a 'Have you any clue what you look like?' service. I set up a little counter, say on the tube concourse, and then as people go by I tell them exactly what I think of what they've got on. 'You're too lumpy for that skirt madam, those shoes should never be allowed out, sir.'
A combo of Trinny and Suzanna and 10 years younger. Obviously I would be assaulted regularly but it could work as a concept. (I sound like I think alot of my own fashion sense but I don't - I just think it's easier to see where other people are going wrong)

meowmix · 18/07/2006 10:47

oooh welshmum can I be your partner in that? I'm exactly the same - no idea how to dress myself and so end up not shopping much in case I make a howling mistake like everyone else I see!

womblingalong · 18/07/2006 10:51

Yep,

Another vote here for horned hooves, why oh why can't people put footcream on! also open toed shoes with manky feet, esp dirty or no polish.

People who wear heels but can't walk in them/don't fit properly, so you get toes hooked over the front of the shoe, and a peculiar hobbled gait - yeuch!

Cannot stand the hipster/low rise thing, worn far too tight with too short tops and rolls of flab cascading over the top (ususally with thong poking out, complete with label!

CheesyFeet · 18/07/2006 10:55

Speaking as a largish lady myself, I hate bigger women dressing in clothes meant for thinner (often younger) people. Low rise tracksuit bottoms & vest tops for example, with far too much flesh showing in between.

MrsBadger · 18/07/2006 10:59

welshmum, I'm right with you!

we should do Positive Style Points as well, and congratulate the deserving on good haircuts, well-chosen accessories etc.

Jazzi · 18/07/2006 11:01

The thing i find difficult is dressing for my post baby shape - I still think of myself as that thin, svelte girl, rather than the old boiler that I am now!!!

edam · 18/07/2006 11:05

oi expat some of us who hit puberty in a rush, going from flat chest to an F cup overnight, get stretchmarks as a result. Not the sole preserve of pregnant women you know.

welshmum · 18/07/2006 11:06

I like this idea more and more, the thing is I would have to sort myself out otherwise it would be like getting a haircut from someone with a Croydon facelift.

NomDePlume · 18/07/2006 11:07

LTH, the second I read the thread title I thought of minging 'footless tights' and skirts. Leggings are NEVER a good look.

I hate black bras under anything other than a dark, dark colour. It screams, "LOOK AT ME. I'VE GOT BREASTS", very tarty IMO.

MissChief · 18/07/2006 11:22

at WM's tube-side "what do you look like?" counter. Problem is wdn't fare so well myself - at one time was a pretty, trendy young thing but post-kids i just cannot or will not make the time any more! I kjnow so women who still do and almost admire them - a friend even gets up at 5.45 (and she's now beyond the baby yrs of early wake-ups) just to get everyone ready, mainly her judging from the straightened hair, full battle make-up and latest fashion clothes all immaculately pressed even at 835 in the morning! I can't bring myself to reach such standards now it's no longer just me, don't even have the inclination. any spare time is spent on sleeping/reading/relaxing, not on doing myself up!
Even i have certain standards tho - exercise clothes only for exercise (esp for overweight), never wear fclothes one-size too small, have reg haircut and try at least to put lipstick on before going out the door.

although it not really a fashion...at least I hope not.
The other thing I HATE is seeing toenails that have varnish on but that were obviously painted weks and weeks and weeks ago.
All chipped, and manky and a big section on re-growth.

Have they not heard of nail varnish remover??
Or easier still just F*cking again over them again you skanky mare....
Or even easier...DONT WEAR OPEN TOED SHOES!!!!
