What straighteners should I get?

My GHDs have finally given up the ghost, after 9 years of good service and numerous repairs.

My repair man says that GHD were bought over a couple of years ago and are nowhere near as good now as they used to be compared to other brands, and that other brands are better and for a better price.

So, if you've bought straighteners recently, what were they and would you recommend them?

Ta!

I agree with your repair man.Bought new ones after old ones broke and thought they were rubbish so got old ones mended. I believe Cloud 9 supposed to be good.

fififolle · 04/12/2013 20:43

As has been mentioned on here before, one of the original designers of the GHDs left and after his non-compete clause expired, launched Cloud 9, using the original Korean makers of GHD- which are now made in China. I've yet to try Cloud 9's but they'd be my choice as apparently the technology is more up to date.

beanandspud · 04/12/2013 20:52

I've heard of Cloud 9 but never tried them as my faithful GHDs are still going strong. Could you ask your local salon what they would recommend?

I got cloud 9 straighteners a couple of years back, after my trusty ghds died....and I just don't think they're as good

Thank you all!

Yes, the repair man said that GHD sold out to the company that made the most fake GHDs in China!

Not heard of Cloud 9 - but clearly mixed opinions! He said that Babyliss or Remington are as good as GHD.

Wish I could try out a few pairs!

i have remington and my my has babylis, both are really good, not sure which model but we both paid around £20-£25 for them.

Remmington pearls are about £45 in Argos and they are really good.

MetellaInCulinaBibit · 05/12/2013 13:13

my hairdresser recommended She hair straighteners, apparently made in the original GHD factory. She says they're as good as, if not better than current GHDs

Hi OP, if you've not bought any yet, there are some decent looking ones on offer on the Boots website called Remington Therapy Pro Straighteners. They were £89.99 but til 12/12 they are £38.99. I don't have these myself (have old GHDs) but the reviews on the site look good and they are a bit of a bargain! Disclaimer - I don't work for Boots
