Is this dress too tarty...

...for a work Christmas party. It starts at lunchtime but will go on into the evening. I've been looking for a non-black dress for ages and like the fit of this one, it's a good length (not as short as on model) and not too clingy so is reasonably flattering I think... but I feel like I've seen so many dresses that I've lost all sense of judgement!

Is it too "try hard"?

Oh and I'm nearly 40....

Not at all. It's lovely.

Bearwantsmore · 02/12/2013 18:24

Phew. Thanks feelinlucky. I've lost all confidence in my decisions and wanted to get some opinions before I show anyone in real life... particularly DH!

Definitely not.

It's nice!

WowserBowser · 02/12/2013 18:26

No, lovely

Great, thanks for the reassurance! Actually it's not too short and there is definitely no cleavage on show, so I think it's just the colour that scares me a bit. But I've realised (pretty late in life) that black doesn't actually suit me that well and I think this red is fairly flattering... I'm a similar colouring to the model. I'm a bit stuck with what to wear on my legs though...I think black tights will look terrible but am not a fan of nude tights. Or are nude tights ok do you think??

And maybe some gold shoes? Again I do t think black would be any good...?

Gold shoes would be fab, def not black but go for closed toes if wearing tights (obviously) or if the party is inside and your legs are ok just slap on some fake tan Smile

Nice dress! Nude tights are fine if not shiny IMO. I would buy sheer ones as natural as possible but I'd wear fake tan underneath (Scottish lilac/white legs which can glimmer through nude tights without it but you may be different)

Gold or even nude shoes would be good. Def not black

It's lovely. Maybe wear a jacket for lunch and take it off for evening.

Personally I dont like gold shoes

Bearwantsmore · 02/12/2013 19:07

Ok so if not gold shoes, what colour would work? Nude? I'm sure I could justify the purchase of some decent nude shoes as an investment!

Yes, I would wear some nude heels and tights with a bit of sheen with that dress I think.

Its fab Grin
