Why have my shellac nails all lifted?

I had them done 9 days ago but within 4 days one was lifting. They've been done before and lasted much better, but I was told this time my nail beds were dry so to use cuticle oil. I have been putting a tiny bit on most nights. Yesterday i went swimming for the first time in ages and one came off in the pool. Gradually since then on, all bar 2 nails have lifted off in one whole piece - completely lifted away from the nail bed.
Is it the oil or the swimming?

I use nail oil with my gelish nails and I don't get lifting.

Shellac does exactly the same with me. It doesn't chip, just the whole nail of colour comes off in one. It just doesn't work on me and I tried several salons just to be sure I now use Jessica gel polish.

Shellac chips on me very quickly, within 2 days. Gelish stays on a lot longer.

So you don't think it's swimming?

It is usually because the technician hasnt capped the free edge of your nail to seal it or the prep hasn't been done properly, I would complain and expect it to be redone within a week

spottymoo · 02/12/2013 19:43

I agree if comes off in a full piece it's either not been prepped correctly scrub fresh hasn't been used or the nail hasn't been capped it's more likely the prep isn't being done properly and your nail has to much natural oil which they didn't remove before application x

Mine used to do this when I had been swimming, it's why I stopped having them.

iloveeverton · 02/12/2013 19:52

I get mine done before holiday- swim most of the day and it always lasts the whole week.

My salon use the cheap blue sky stuff too.

XiCi · 02/12/2013 21:04

Have just come back from holiday, 2 weeks and swam every day and my shellac is still on and in good condition. I would definitely change technician.

sophieandbrendantowinstrictly · 02/12/2013 21:35

I don't understand what has made them different - the only change is that I've used this oil?

It shouldn't be the oil.
