How to wear white?

I need help! I'm rubbish at clothes shopping, beyond a look round asda or tesco.

My DH's work is having a white Christmas themed party, which will be very smart, and the invitation specifies some white in all outfits. I have nothing white, except ironically, the blouse I work to the Christmas party last year!
What to wear?

I'm 5'2, a size 14/16 depending on brand, with a big bust and decent waist.

Has anyone seen a marvellous classy, re-wearable, flattering partly white outfit?
(eternal gratitude available for all!)

Not much help I'm afraid, but don't wear your white blouse with a black skirt or you might be mistaken for a waitress! How about the nice white dress in the M&S Christmas ad?

SwedishEdith · 29/11/2013 20:52

Could you cheat and go silver instead?

MummyWeatherwax · 29/11/2013 20:57

Grin at waitress!
Silver could work, but I don't know where to start looking...
I knew that one day I'd have to venture beyond supermarkets and primark, the question is where?

This is hard! I put 'white dress' into Shopstyle and they are all either weddingy or summery, and mostly quite skimpy and cheap looking (or massively expensive). So probably a white top or trousers. Will keep looking - what's your budget?

this if you've the balls to pull it off? With a big silver sparkly necklace and a beehive.

Botanicbaby · 29/11/2013 21:02

any of these take your fancy OP?

ASOS white dresses

Rubybrazilianwax · 29/11/2013 21:07

Would this work? Try cream instead, if you got an off white cream, not a buttery cream

Rubybrazilianwax · 29/11/2013 21:11

Or this might be more forgiving

SwedishEdith · 29/11/2013 21:12

I bet a bloke decided on this theme. I had quick look for silver dresses and tops and, um, couldn't really see anything nice.

Ooh, lots of food for thought there! I'm not brave enough for body con I'm afraid, but there are some that definitely look good.

I love the coast one, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to get much wear out of it?
I liked this too, and the first little mistress dress.
Do you know if their stuff is nice in real life?

And yes, a bloke chose the theme - I think he has visions of being like Indiana jones in a white tux...

Ms23 · 30/11/2013 12:42

Does it have to be the whole outfit? what about white shoes or a chunky white belt with a black dress?

MummyWeatherwax · 30/11/2013 15:43

It doesn't have to be all white, so accessorising is my back up.

I've taken the plunge, and ordered the Coast one.

Hopefully it's as nice on as it is in the picture, otherwise I'll be back!
