Nigellas - GrinGrin I am so damn impatient ! I'm off to boots tomorrow, to buy avene triacneal thingy. Apparently it's good for marks. I am so skint it's unbelievable

Someone put it on your best buys please Grin

Fuckitthatlldo · 04/12/2013 21:21

Oh I used Triacneal for a couple of months before moving on to NCN skincare 2% retinol with non prescription strength tretinoin, before moving onto the hard stuff Grin

It's strong enough to have to be careful with it if your skin is new to retinoids. It didn't make me peel but it definitely made me red for a bit.

I would also put Vichy normaderm anti imperfection global hydrating care on my best beauty buy list. It has a really good level of actives - AHA's and BHA's - and is really hydrating, but light and fresh feeling. Non comedogenic too so won't clog pores. It's great to use in the morning if you use a retinoid at night. Unsure why the product name needs to include 'global' but there ya go.

TeaJunky · 04/12/2013 22:10

Oooh fuckit, more stuff to buy Blush

I'm adding it to my list. I remember you writing on another thread somewhere about this Vichy thing.

Did you try the alpha H SPF 50 mousteriser then?

i promise I'm not stalking you

Also, does triacneal work? Does it work for red marks in particular??

TeaJunky · 04/12/2013 22:16

Fuckit - can you reccomend a really effective cleanser for problem blemished skin too please? I've read that there's no point in getting one with ahas and bhas as it's washed off quickly and the ahas/bhas need time to absorb into the skin?

TeaJunky · 04/12/2013 22:18

Really sorry op Thanks

My best beauty buys:

Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks
Tweezerman tweezers
Olive oil (for hair)
Microfibre turban from primark
Manuka honey (proper UMF verified one, for face masks, awesomeness )

NigellasGuest · 05/12/2013 12:14

here are mine:

Coconut oil (for skin, not hair although lots of people love it as a conditioner)
Benefit Lemon Aid eyelid primer
Clarins Iris toner
Emma Hardy Amazing Face Balm
Alpha H factor 50 moisturiser - I think I recommended that to Fuckit, do you like it? (if you bought it). Very light for a factor 50, I highly recommend it if you need a strong sunscreen in your skincare regime.

Fuckitthatlldo · 05/12/2013 13:18

Hey Nigellas, yes it was you that recommended it! Smile I haven't bought it yet but intend to for use when the weather gets sunnier. It does sound like a great product.

At the moment I'm using Neutrogena oil free moisture with SPF 35 and I really like it. It's non-comedogenic (I'm pretty anal about making sure anything I put on my face is) and non greasy without being so matt it makes the skin look dull, and it works well over the Vichy product that I mentioned up thread.

Teajunky Yes Triacneal works. It contains retinaldehyde which is one metabolic step above retinol and one below pure retinoic acid (or tretinoin). So it works the same sort of way that retin-a works (ie increases cell turnover) only it's not as strong and your skin has to convert the retinaldehyde to retinoic acid once it's applied. So eventually it will produce similar (but perhaps less dramatic) results to retin-a but the process will take much longer. What it is great for though, is "retinising" the skin ie getting your skin acclimatised to using a retinoid before you go up in strength. That doesn't mean you won't experience an adjustment period with a stronger retinoid, but it will help.

As for a good cleanser for blemish prone skin, I'd just go for something really gentle. You don't want anything harsh - all the products aimed at teenagers just strip the skin and stress it out. And if you're using a retinoid, you don't want anything you use to irritate the skin further. I like Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser. It's non-irritating, non-comedogenic (I know I go on about this but it's so important if you're prone to spots), it's very reasonably priced, and it does the job. La Roche Posay are a good brand to try too. I've heard good things about their physiological cleanser.

Sorry OP for hijacking your thread Blush Another HG product for me is Dermalogica's overnight clearing gel. Full of salycylic acid, it's the best spot treatment I know. I barely ever get spots now (and if I do they're usually very superficial thanks to retin-a) but if I do I spot treat with this stuff and it kills those suckers dead.

TeaJunky · 05/12/2013 14:32

Fuckit.

I think I fancy you just a teeny weeny bit. Grin Blush

TheGonnagle · 05/12/2013 14:34

Chantecaille just skin.
Shu Uemura cleansing oil.

TeaJunky · 05/12/2013 14:37

Fuckit - oh and I have that neutrogena oil free mousteriser too, yay Grin but I thought the Vichy global thing is a mousteriser ??

So you'd use mousteriser + global thingy?

TeaJunky · 05/12/2013 14:37

Plus sunscreen ... So that's three layers of products, right? Blush

NigellasGuest · 05/12/2013 14:38

I have a mousteriser - it's called a cat

TeaJunky · 05/12/2013 14:38

And then make up, which makes it four?

Or am I getting this all horribly wrong Blush

TeaJunky · 05/12/2013 14:41

Let's be retin A buddies GrinGrin

Fuckitthatlldo · 05/12/2013 16:15

Nigellas and Teajunky Grin Grin Grin

The Neutrogena oil free moisture is a sunscreen with spf 35.

So I use the Vichy as an active and hydrating product, and then the Neutrogena as a sunscreen on top.

AmIGoingMad · 05/12/2013 16:25
