How old is your GHD iron?

I had to get a new GHD iron last week - simply because my old one does not work when I travel to the USA. The older versions were simply not dual voltage. However, I still use the old one most of the time when I'm in the UK.

I checked when I got my old one - and was a little surprised. It's over 7 years old now. Yeah, I know that things should last long, but I was seriously surprised it's still going. I know we live in a buy and throw society, so may have gotten used to things not working longer than the warranty allows…

How old is yours?

My current ones are two or three years.
I had a ltd edition pink set that only lasted 2 years and I wasn't impressed. Previous to that I had a set for about 5 or 6 years.

I bought mine in 2004! I was 24 and in my first proper job and couldn't believe I paid £100 for them and couldn't believe I was spending that much!

They will be 10 years old next year and have been used almost daily!

nikkihollis · 27/11/2013 18:38

Mine must be at least 10 years old too!!!!! And still going strong. I was also horrified when I found myself forking out for them but it was definitely one of my best purchases.

JemimaPuddle · 27/11/2013 19:06

11 years and still going strong!

randomfemale · 27/11/2013 19:10

Had mine about 12 years and still work perfectly

MissRainbowBrite · 27/11/2013 19:10

6 years and still working well - touch wood!

Methe · 27/11/2013 19:11

Mine are some of the first generation ones so I think they must be 11 oe 12 years old. They were my sisters before they were mine. I only use them occasionally.

newtonupontheheath · 27/11/2013 19:13

My husband (then boyfriend) bought me mine for our first Christmas. 6 years this year!

They're on their way out though, but will definitely make that investment again!

CadenceRoastingByAnOpenFire · 27/11/2013 19:13

Mine are 7 years old. It's funny that you started this thread because I was thinking earlier about how long/well they've lasted (touch wood). I use them lots too.

cookielove · 27/11/2013 19:14

My last pair died at age 12. New ones are only a baby, But I think I helped my old ones by hanging them over the door tool and slowly pulling the wire out and breaking the connection.

TheBookofRuth · 27/11/2013 19:16

Um, about 12 years old I think. Certainly I bought them pre-DH and that was 10 years ago.

WhoNickedMyName · 27/11/2013 19:16

10 years old mine. Bought them a month after DS was born. I've sent them off twice for a repair, cost 15 quid each time but money well spent imo. Still going strong.

KosherBacon · 27/11/2013 19:17

Just checked my emails and mine have been going since 25 th April 2005. Good old iPhones! I can't believe it took me two seconds to look up inane crap like that.

Mine are 6 years old and used frequently. They were bought for me by a boyfriend, my relationship with my straighteners have lasted much longer than my boyfriend did!

monopoly123 · 27/11/2013 19:20

7yrs - I was pregnant with dd2 when I got them.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/11/2013 19:24

12 years old.

onedogandababy · 27/11/2013 19:25

11 years. Just about to use them, now that my hair's been dried in front of the fire. Smile

teacher123 · 27/11/2013 19:27

2004 - bought them to do my hair for a party I was going to. I made my now husband drive me round SW London looking for stockists at 6pm on a Saturday night! Still going strong. I now use them most often to curl my hair, not straighten it!

mammadiggingdeep · 27/11/2013 19:36

7 years old. They're my second pair. My is is on her fourth pair in 10 years!!! X

Bought mine in 2001 I think - still working but I only due them when going out (which isn't often these days - once a month?)

ShreddedHoops · 27/11/2013 20:32

10 years old! And sent off twice for repairs from Ebay repairers at £15 a pop.

Have weaned myself off them in the last 6 months, prior to that I used them daily whether or not I had washed my hair. So so bad for your hair, but so addictive!

SnowBells · 27/11/2013 22:31

They are quite amazing things. I remember the first time I ever used a GHD was at the - wait for it - GYM over 10 years ago. It was a posh gym, and I met a friend afterwards who immediately asked whether I straightened my hair, and what kind of straighteners they were.

I didn't pay any attention to what it was.

She then said, it must be a GHD, and described it - which it was.

Just over 10 years old and used daily. My best purchase ever! Prior to discovering GHD'S I was hidden behind a ball of frizz - life changing. Soon learnt to invest in a good protector spray.
