woes about resetting engagement ring

Hello everyoneI've been married for over a decade, and my engagement ring...well, just isn't right for me. It's a lovely ring but it's uncomfortable to wear and it's a terrible shame I'm not crazy about the setting-- the diamond (almost a carat) is a rectangular radiant cut w/ bagettes on the sides and it's been locked away in a box for YEARS and this Xmas I've decided what I really want is to finally have it reset in a style that suits.

DH and I are planning on going to Hatton Garden to have this done, we just need to do some research first to find the right jeweller to do the job, as it's possible it may need to be a custom job...

Now AIBU or should I be paranoid about the possibility of the diamond being switched out/stolen while it's in the hands of the jeweller? It is certified w/ paperwork. And does anyone have any suggestions for good, reputable places to go? Many thx

I have had my ring restored. It was husband's mother's and the stones were loose so it had to be done. I had a great jeweller, he did it himself and made the wedding ring to match it. I would be paranoid to leave it with some unknown place and inverstigate before you leave your ring! Also, I really wanted the jeweller to do it himself (saw what he made and could do in the place where he worked) and not send it off to some workshop. I am way up in Scotland so can't help you about London. Good luck!

Eric Ross in Hatton Garden is great. Ask for Clive (owner). You will get a great service - absolutely trustworthy and 100% honest.

That's brilliant! Thanks to you both :) I'd love a few more recommendations if anyone else has any-- for comparison's sake...

I had my engagement ring reset at Holts in Hatton Garden. They were great - would definitely recommend. Although it was 7 years ago!

Harriet Kelshall in Herts is recommended though not cheap. About 45 mins from London near Stevenage.

I have bought, in the past, from Eric Ross.
I have had rings made and stones reset by Simon Lewis (The Diamond Shop) further up Hatton Garden. It was just a workshop, but tge guys were excellent & great fun. They did stunning work, too.
