Boot wearing

I was having a discussion while sat in a station recently about why women wear boots and men don't (generally). While people watching it was apparently that the ladies were 70% clad in boots of some nature whereas men were in the usual trainers, leather shoes etc. Why is that the case as there is no obvious reason? Thoughts?

Men's shoes are comfortable, smart and sensible.

A woman's shoes are ridiculous objects, boots are the only option for practical footwear in winter.

Lace up shoes are frumpy, Mary Jane's childish and trainers mean you are going to the gym or are a scruff, converse are too casual a lot if the time.

Boots can keep your feet dry, look smart and get round the sock problem too.

Just compare my DH's comfortable, soft leather, cushion soled, last three or four years, everyday at the office Clark's lace ups.

With any pair of women's court shoes, with our without heels and why women wear boots is obvious.

Hm. I agree with what's been proposed and add that it's partly about culture, men in other cultures do wear boots. You've just brought my attention to that!

It's true - have noticed the same -I think starball's answer is spot on. Could also explain why my DH's feet are still soft smooth and childlike and mine aren't !
