What do you do with the clothes you wore today?

I put the day's underwear and shirts into the laundry basket every evening.

But what about trousers, skirts, dresses, leggings, sweaters, cardigans? What do you do with them?

I don't like to put clothes that have been worn back into the wardrobe, but OTOH I can't have them lying around cluttering up the bedroom.

Chair in bedroom where everything gets creased

Anything that's been close to the skin goes straight to laundry basket or dry cleaning basket, otherwise back in wardrobe, unless I know I am going to wear it again the next day, then goes on valet stand. Everyone has their own laundry basket in their bedroom and there is another one in the laundry room downstairs. Dh even has his own laundry basket in his bathroom and still he flings his stuff on the floor.Hmm

What about the skirt that you wore with thick winter tights, which you didn't sweat in because it was so bloody cold yesterday, and didn't get dirty, but is now creased and you don't really want to wear again because its so bloody cold today? Creased but not grubby.

I hang up creased, worn clothes on overdoor hanger and then when I am next doing ironing, run the iron over them.

This is why I'm amazed on mumsnet that some people do so many loads of washing. I think the max a week we have ever done was about 7 and x2 was reusable nappies

Yesterday
I wore tights, long sleeves t shirt, dress, cardigan, underwear. The tights, t shirt and underwear in wash, dress and cardigan will get worn again

Toddlers - both wore vest, pants, long tshirt, jumper and jeans. The jumper and jeans are still clean so get folded and reworn.

Sorry if this has already been written, I only had a chance to read page 1!but it's dodgy to put worn clothes in the wardrobe as it attracts clothes moths even if it's only partially worn. It's got better to keep out in the air on a chair or somesuch to keep them aired until you have finished with them.

Reading upthread: Dark attracts clothes moths and light repels them.

if i am at home i may wear a top again but if i am working I would always wear a fresh top.

I would change my knickers if I am showering and going out or getting changed. Don't change bra every day.

why would wash cardis every time especially if they are wool. makes them go bobbly quicker.

Jeans and bra go (neatly, ish) on the floor to be worn next day. It's not ideal but their only there overnight so nobody important sees them Grin Cardigan goes on chair to be worn again at some point. Everything else goes in washing basket.

Perishables ie pants, socks and the layer worn closest to my body (vest or top) go in the wash. The rest go on the floor waiting for tomorrow when they'll next be worn Blush.

Am really shocked at some posts. Shock

First the amount of washing- it's all a bit OCD- and second the clothes all over the floor and banisters. I've spent years trying to get my kids never to drop clothes on the floor!

I wonder if the people who wash once and wear are also the people who throw out food that's up to the use by date without having a sniff?

I consider myself very clean- morning shower, bath every night, sometimes a shower midday in the summer too, with change of undies in hot weather.

BUT- I never ever wash anything except undies socks or a T shirt/ vest after one wear.

If your clothes are made of natural fibres and not next to your body, what's the issue?

All my clothes except undies are put away in the wardrobe or chest of drawers at night- except my 'lounging' clothes which I hang over a chair in bedroom for next day.

So that's wool knitted dresses, tunics, jumpers, cardis, jeans, tops- all folded or on hangers and back in the wardrobe. If I wear a light T shirt or vest with sleeves under a wool sweater, I don't wash the sweater until it's been worn about 6 times. My clothes don't smell, and they aren't dirty.

I don't think moths are fussy over the colour of your clothes or a human pong- what they like is a nice open wardrobe door, windows and curtains open at night, lights on and then they find their way to your clothes. You can't possibly wash or dry clean wool coats after one wear so they go back in the wardrobe surely? Mine do anyway.

Underwear goes in the dirty basket, and then I have a set of shelves in my wardrobe for clothes that are clean enough to wear again. Everything in my wardrobe goes in plastic sealable bags, I never leave clothes out because then the moths can get them.

I have two moth traps in our bedroom, countless lavender bags & cedarwood balls in the cupboard, and cans of natural anti-moth spray. MOTHS MUST DIE.

underwear in the laundry basket and stuff to be worn the next day goes over the bannisters, if not being worn the next day it is washed.

Gosh…I feel like a slattern!! Pants and sock/tights in the washing hamper straight away. Not bras after one wear unless dirty/smelly. Leggings tend to need washing after one wear too as very close-worn. Anything else goes back in the wardrobe unless dirty or smelly, although sometimes a pile accumulates on top of the hamper til I get around to sorting it. Had moths once…. put cedar wood balls in various locations in the wardrobes (probably a MN recommendation)... got rid of them like magic. I do shout at kids and DH periodically when they put away stained and smelly gear, though….

Fascinating as all these replies are, what I really want to know is:

What prompted you to ask the question, OP?

It's weird- I've never heard of anyone putting clothes over the banisters .... and I shared lots of houses before I married.

Why over the banisters? Do you all live alone or do your partners and children put their clothes there too?

Auntidote, see my post of Fri 22-Nov-13 06:25:07, plus the weather turned suddenly coldddddd and I realised that I was highly unlikely to wear the clothes on my floordrobe valet stand again next week.

annehathaway I think that's a different kind of moth.
