What do you do with the clothes you wore today?

I put the day's underwear and shirts into the laundry basket every evening.

But what about trousers, skirts, dresses, leggings, sweaters, cardigans? What do you do with them?

I don't like to put clothes that have been worn back into the wardrobe, but OTOH I can't have them lying around cluttering up the bedroom.

Either they're clean enough to be put back into the wardrobe, or not clean enough to be worn again. I don't have a specific resting place for slightly worn clothes.

So jacket and jeans will go back to wardrobe, shirt, socks, underwear will go to laundry basket.

Pants and socks into the laundry box every evening. Trousers/jeans worn all day will go over a chair-back for another day, probably tomorrow, and will find their way to the laundry box after three or four days, depending on the activity they've seen. This time of the year, I tend to live in jumpers and sweat-shirts, which get two or three days use unless I 've got really sweaty (!) then get washed. Stuff I might wear for a few hours, such as a work meeting or an evening out, generally goes back into the wardrobe for another outing or two.

Underwear and anything that needs washing at 40 C- in washing basket.

Other clothes hung on outside of wardrobe to air overnight (or, if need cleaning or washing on a cool programme, go on bedroom carpet next to basket, to be dealt with in the morning).

My home clothes, jeans and t shirts etc. stay on a chair once they have been worn until they need washing. Work dresses/jackets/skirts go back in the wardrobe. My wardrobe doesn't smell of anything. Most of my dresses are worn twice before being washed.

I think those of you saying "just put then away" are missing the point. This is a thread for those of us who are too lazy concerned about moths and smells to put the clothes away after one wear Hmm

If they are being worn again the next day I put them on hangers on the back of the bedroom door.

In this weather I probably wear them to bed under my pjs.

If I put it back in the wardrobe after wearing it, I may forget I have worn it and it could be there for ages and the slightest sniff of any sweat I believe attracts the dreaded moths. I'm probably being a bit paranoid about it all.

I already use those orange mothball things. I saw them reduced in Waitrose once and bought several boxes of them.

The over door hanger things with loads of pegs on are really useful.

Mostly it all goes in the wash except cardis, blazers and scarves which don't need laundering every time. If something will last two days it will be worn again the next day and slung over the banister until then.

I've never seen a moth in a wardrobe in my life tbh. Are they a common thing?

Report
higgle · 22/11/2013 20:22

I've never had any moth probl3ms either, and I have loads of cashmere and other woolies.

I hang them up on a hook and try to wear them again inthe next few days around the house or somewhere that doesn't mater aout lokkking marvellously coordinated.

I have found things inthe wardrobe that I thought were clean when I hang them but obvioulsly weren't as they have developed a stain or green/ black bit

LightastheBreeze · 22/11/2013 20:38

I have seen moths flying round the house in the summer and also have discovered a few small holes in woollens, I still wear them though. Also a cashmere scarf had really been chomped at, but oddly none of these things were in the wardrobe. I have never seen any in the wardrobe, they would probably keel over though with all the orange mothball things in there Grin

If they are clean enough to wear again then they are clean enough to be put away surely? Otherwise they need to go in the wash.

Apart from cardis, everything gets washed after a days wear.

KrabbyPatty · 22/11/2013 21:28

I just peel everything off and lob it into the laundry basket.

Apart from jeans, I wear them more than once, They get thrown on a chair in the bathroom or onto the floordrobe.

Yes moths are common - I learned the hard way not to put worn items back in the wardrobe...

yes underwear and top in wash, skirts hung up on wardrobe, jeans and cardi on chair in bedroom to wear again.

if I wear trousers all day would wash them. Would
never put slightly dirty stuff away

I wear clothes until they get a spill or smell. Otherwise back into the wardrobe or drawer. Have never had a moth in the wardrobe. It‘s difficult enough to deal with the washing and drying as it is.

I have a chair for this purpose, but it's on the other side of the room, so I usually just use the floordrobe!

I always have a selection of tops, jumpers, trousers of varying colours and comfort levels and several bras which have been discarded by my bed, fortunately my side is furthest from the door so they are hidden. DP leaves his in the middle of the floor on his side until I get fed up of seeing them all and throw them in the wash, but in fairness this can take several weeks Blush

I'm a bit more careful during spider season as nothing scares me quite as much as picking up my fallow clothes to find a hairy arachnid scurrying out from under them.

Normal clothes get folded neatly over the front of the bed (think bedknobs and broomsticks style metal bed)

Work uniform goes over my desk chair - don't always wear it for more than one day though.

Dh puts his clothes on the floor by the side of his bed which annoys me intensely.

I keep hoping our cat will pee on them.

Someone upthread mentioned keeping their wardrobe door open to air it. Surely that's how moths get in? I'm fastidious about keeping my wardrobe door closed and never get moths.

I agree with several others. If it is clean enough to wear again, then put it away. If it isn't clean enough to get put in the wardrobe then wash it. Why would you want to have piles of clothes lying around your room? Clothes are either clean or not.
