Long trench mac - stylish or frumpy?

It's a bit late as I already have it, but interested in opinions!

Am attempting to channel Meryl Streep in Kramer vs Kramer
woodstockwardrobe.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/meryl-streep1.jpeg

Mine is Debenhams, not Burberry

Wore it for the first time today with flat knee high boots...caught sight of my reflection a couple of times & wondered whether I looked a bit ridiculous. I don't think they're currently "in fashion" as I couldn't find one anywhere and bought mine on eBay. I haven't seen anybody else wearing one (I do live in an unfashionable provincial city though.)

I'm 35 if that helps

I have one, bought 2 years ago.

I thought it looked great but have worn it no more than a dozen times as it makes me look frumpy.

It hangs in my wardrobe Sad

Looks marvellous on La Streep, though! Do you look like Meryl by any chance?

DoctorRobert · 22/11/2013 11:29

I have similar colouring, but that's where the similarities end!

I think it would depend what you wear it with. Over a boring/safe outfit it would look frumpy but over skinnies, or a low top at incredibly high heels it could look amazing. Think you'd hand to be really slim too..

DoctorRobert · 22/11/2013 13:58

I am slim, I'll be wearing it with skinnies and knee high boots both flat and heeled. No incredibly high heels though!

You need no boobs and a defined waist and they look gorgeous. Otherwise sack of potatoes (me)

DoctorRobert · 22/11/2013 14:09

Hmmm. I definitely have boobs...have a defined waist too though

I think they're super chic in theory but rarely successful in real life.

They always look a bit dated and ill fitting. Unless you're a leggy model type.

Aquelven · 22/11/2013 14:28

But they do keep your legs dry Grin

Stylish- I have two!-they are from Collectif and are calf length but are full skirted so I can wear them with my circle and pencil dresses. I love mine but wish they were thicker material as not really suitable for the weather now.

I usually wear mine with court or mary jane style shoes but have also worn them with my patent brogues and still looks good.

I think it's one of those classic things, I agree it has to suit the wearer but a good coat and a good fit would look very nice! (I can't wear it, I look frumpy!)
