Christmas Party - 80s Theme!

My work Christmas Party for reasons unknown to me has the dress code "Black Tie, Smart, 80’s / Miami Theme".

I have this dress, which I bought several months ago because I adored it but have never actually worn Blush

I don't really know much about 80s (or 'Miami') fashion (not old enough at the time!) but I have a (possibly misguided) impression that lace is quite 80s?! Can you clever clever people help me 'accessorise' the dress to make it more 80s?

If not, all suggestions as to what else I could wear most welcome! If it helps, I am size 16, hourglass figure (big boobs, tum & bum), quite pale-skinned with brown hair.

Thanks in advance!!

Do you work with me? Because we have exactly the same theme!

I am going with a fitted, bright blue one shoulder number with black Louboutins and a zebra print clutch.

You dress is very nice, maybe some bright accessories - neon courts? Bold earrings?

Haha I don't know?! Large corporate organisation with offices next to a tube station in North London?

I think my main problem is I don't really understand the brief - in my head 80s and 'black tie' don't really go hand in hand! Plus I don't really want to have to spend too much money, so was trying to work with what I already have...

I work for a large corporate org but we're central not North Lon!

It's a funny old theme and I agree that 80s and formal don't really mix unless you start getting involved with velvet headbands, taffeta dresses and shoulder pads, and who needs that?

What accessories do you have?

Ooh I can DEFINITELY help :)

To go with that dress, you need:

Electric blue/pink satin clutch (optional gold detail, usually envelope clutch- Ebay full of cheap 2nd hand)
Satin court shoes, (ideally with some flourish or other, you can get plain ones v cheap and jazz up with clip-on earrings)
Big, chunky rhinestone type jewellery - dangly earrings and big ostentatious necklace
Sheer black tights (15 denier) - ideally with some diamante detail on them somewhere :)
Hair - beg/borrow some heated rollers, you are thinking Tess from Working Girl (or Tess's friend, eek!) Lots of backcombing and hairspray.
If you really want to go all-out you would get a pair of three-quarter length gloves, and if you REALLY want to make it authentic they would be black lace :) yes really.

Don't forget the electric blue eyeliner and bright pink lipstick :)

This is NOT velvet/taffeta/Laura Ashley ground, it is Working Girl, Dynasty :)

HTH!

Actually the dress you chose has 3/4 sleeves so I wouldn't wear the gloves (I thought the dress had shoulder sleeves)

Tbh, I'm not adhering to the theme too hard at all - I'm wearing a nice dress and shoes and bag I already own.
