Crest whitening strips

houmousandcarrotsandwich · 19/11/2013 12:47

just used for the first time (30 mins) and my teeth have gone 'patchy', some bits are whiter then others.

Is this normal?
Will it correct with further use?

I'm a whitening virgin, assumed I wouldn't see anything after the 1st one.

Also I've a bottle of red I was planning on having a glass of when DCs are in bed, do I need to hold off? (are my teeth more exposed to staining/colouring having had the strips on?)

I don't remember my teeth looking patchy when I used the strips. That was about a year ago. I do remember avoiding strong coloured food and drinks for the 10 days while I used them though.

Drink the wine thru a straw just to be on the safe side Grin.

There's a good reason they are illegal in the UK

houmousandcarrotsandwich · 19/11/2013 14:11

Didnt realise they were illegal! (why are they?)
Just thought Crest was a well known/professional brand, so went with them....

They contain 10% hydrogen peroxide. Dentists in the uk are legally allowed to use up to 6% on clients but products sold to the public should have far less than this. GDC statement here

I've used these years ago. They hurt so much ! I have sensitive teeth anyway but it felt like there were red hot electrified needles being poked up through my jaw into my eye sockets and skull after the third or fourth time I used them. Agony.

chickydoo · 19/11/2013 17:37

Clearly I need glasses, I clicked as I wondered what on earth in God's name Chest whitening strips were... And who wanted their chest whitened Grin

Sparklegeek · 19/11/2013 20:07

I started a thread on here a long time ago about these being the Work of the Devil. Agony. Good results but never again.

Didn't make my teeth patchy though.

Mrsmorton · 19/11/2013 20:14

If you really want whiter teeth, you need to see a dentist (not someone in a shopping centre with a BTEC in food arrangement technology materials) and not buy possibly counterfeit medical supplies off the internet. If your dentist fucks it up you can sue them and they will have insurance to pay to fix whatever happens. If your possibly counterfeit crest strips make your teeth blotchy or give you chemical burns or whatever, then well, good luck with that.

houmousandcarrotsandwich · 19/11/2013 21:22

The patchiness went after an hour or so.

They didn't hurt.

Will prob not use again tho (just wanted abit of confidence for my first date in 10 years and post marriage break up on Friday)

chickydoo you made me seriously LOL (and nearly spill my Wine )

I use smokers tooth powder- just gets rid of stains rather than whitening.Have wondered about the whitening strips too. Might be worth trying to even up any patchiness .Have wondered about the whitening strips too, not so sure now...
good luck with your date - how exciting !

Mrsmorton · 19/11/2013 21:46

Good luck with date!

TheBeanAndTheBee · 19/11/2013 22:33

I have used these (bought in the US) they were very effective for me in terms of whitening, no patchiness, but they did make my teeth very sensitive.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 19/11/2013 22:34

Good luck from me too!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/11/2013 22:36

I have used them too with no issue , but I do use the dentist gum shields and gel anyway.

MacaYoniandCheese · 19/11/2013 22:41

You can just buy them off the shelf here...didn't know they were illegal in the UK! They do give good results (I've had mine done at the dentist previously) but OH GOD, the worst pain I have ever endured in my life. Couldn't eat, sleep or touch any rough surface for days.

chipsandpeas · 20/11/2013 07:22

i use them, i get them from america (get peopel to get me them when they are over there) i dont see a issue with them altho you cant get them here they are a over the counter product over there

Lunaballoon · 20/11/2013 07:25
