Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

Hi ladies, I just wanted you to know that I'm taking a break from s&b for a while. Keep the thread going. You've been amazing support and inspiration getting to grips with the winter pallete. I'll be back soon...Smile

Queen do you need to give your bank account a break? Grin Thank so much for hosting this thread in the first place. It has been wonderful for me. Flowers Hopefully we can keep it going in your (hopefully temporary) absence.

HeavenlyE · 20/01/2014 16:50

Just in honour of QueenC are either of these winter greens?

this

or this

MissScatterbrain · 20/01/2014 16:55

The jumper definitely looks emerald, the cardigan looks like it might be emerald - it seems to look ok with the black trousers which is one way of checking if its a winter green.

Hope Queen C is back soon....

Maraki · 20/01/2014 20:42

queen c I hope you are back soon! Your pinterest board has been an inspiration!! xxx

LittleBabyPigsus · 20/01/2014 20:53

Have a nice break QueenC but do come back soon!

What are everyone's favourite Revlon lip butter shades? Boots currently have 2 for £10 on selected Revlon makeup including the lip butters, and since I need a new mascara anyway I thought I'd pick one up. The suede lipsticks are also in the offer but since I wear so much matte lipstick in winter, I'd like something glossier for a change. Lollipop looks nice and winter-friendly.

Hi. I had my colours done many years ago and was a winter. I have very dark brown hair and quite pale skin but my eyes are a murky medium/dark green with golden brown round the pupil which doesn't seem to fit the classic winter colours - or does it?

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 21/01/2014 10:27

Pinkflamingo I have the same colouring and I do feel like my analysis was right, because I could see the difference in the way I looked when I wore different colours. Do you feel like the winter colours don't suit you?

pinkflaming0 · 21/01/2014 10:33

Thanks Face I feel that some of the brighter and deeper colours are a bit harsh and the very pale icy blues and pinks look a bit wishy washy on me.

I don't wear black near my face as I find it drains me but I love charcoal which is a winter colour I believe - it was a very long time ago and I didn't get any swatches.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 21/01/2014 10:39

The lady I did my colour day with was back for her third colour day as over the years she felt various consultants hadn't got it right. She was happy by the end of it, I believe. I don't know if that is an option, or maybe you are happy just to try on different colours and can tell what suits?

pinkflaming0 · 21/01/2014 10:43

I'm thinking of having another go. It was over 20 years ago that I was 'done' the first time.

I know that I get compliments when wearing what I think are some classic winter colours so clearly on the right track but maybe needs some tweaking. I suppose that some colours in a season will suit people more than others?

escargot · 21/01/2014 11:02

Hi all pink mentioned you so thought I'd join in. Sultry winter who doesn't get where bright fits into sultry and hates the make-up Confused

MissScatterbrain · 21/01/2014 11:05

Looks like you both have already found this thread Smile

Escargot, can you go to Show All Messages to find make up tips as there are loads on here. Some of us are not comfortable about bright lipsticks and they have found using lip stains useful. I love strong lipsticks but do not wear blusher or much eye make up (apart from eyeliner and mascara).

escargot · 21/01/2014 11:09

Thanks miss good idea! As I was saying on the HoC thread, bright make-up doesn't suit my quiet nature Grin

Struggling with the whole golden vs pink tone in general. Wore gold jewellery and deep, dark brown for most of my life because it matches my eyes.

Can't equate dark grey eyeshadow and dark brown eyes at all Shock

Thanks for your help x

Came across this [[https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=582054895182183&set=a.383607098360298.88686.371220399598968&type=1&theater FB page - she is a winter. You may find her photos useful]

link

escargot · 21/01/2014 11:12

X post again miss!

That link was great, I look like the washed out version but when I wear lipstick I'm all lipstick and no face!

MissScatterbrain · 21/01/2014 11:13

You can wear taupe eyeshadow (or like me go without). Winters need a lot of contrasts in their make up and the colours need to be cool, I don't think the painted look is right for us (as too many colours can dilute the winter look).

If you google pics of Anne Hathaway - she has dark brown eyes and her make up now looks great. There are older pics of her wearing coral based make up and she looks awful.

MissScatterbrain · 21/01/2014 11:15

Which lipstick did you use? I wonder if its because its so different to what you are used to that you focus on the lips, like the new sofa analogy.

I know that when I wear lippy, my eyes "pop" and I look much more defined and not at all washed out.

escargot · 21/01/2014 11:26

The Hoc ones recommended. Damson pink and Burgundy wine shimmer. I threw out the carmine red as it gave me nightmares Shock

I think I need a balm but the Revlon ones make my lips itch!

Totally get the new sofa analogy!

pinkflaming0 · 21/01/2014 11:30

I have a small mouth so tend to avoid bright lipsticks as they seem make my mouth look even smaller and draw attention to it. I prefer a more natural look - me but better.

MissScatterbrain · 21/01/2014 11:45

Try putting on a bit of lipstick and then vaseline or chapstick over it.

ElizabethBathory · 21/01/2014 14:39

Oh I really need to make the effort to wear stronger lipstick daily... the woman in your Fb link is my exact colouring MissS (I may be paler and even more washed out if anything). The lipstick makes such a difference! I know what you mean about feeling like you're all lips escargot, but I think it's a case of very gradually getting used to it. I love bright and dark lips when I'm all dressed up for the evening, but at work feel a bit overdone in it. BUT it clearly works to balance out the contrast between my hair and skin.

Also, if you don't like grey eyeshadow, don't wear it! I only do liner really, but find black or almost-black looks best.

ElizabethBathory · 21/01/2014 14:42

And everyone who's not loving heavy lipstick, can I recommend Korres Wild Rose Lip butter? It's got lots more colour in than your average tinted balm, but still looks natural. You can get it on ASOS with free postage.

HeavenlyE · 21/01/2014 15:47

I have a small thin mouth and I think bright / dark lipstick really highlights it (in a bad way I mean!). I did have a HoC burgundy ish lipstick that I liked, especially toned down with lip balm (I need a bit of gloss to trick the eye iyswim) but I lost it, ho hum.
