I've been away for a bit but going to catch up on the thread...

just wanted to say, Face I love your board - I am also a winter dramatic gamine!

off to read thread now....

QueenCadbury · 15/12/2013 20:19

I understood what you were talking about elizabeth! I've never studied my eyes closely so have absolutely no idea what colours I'd end up with. I'll stick with my bright winter. What I'm finding hard though is it seems to be at odds with being an ingenue natural. I think the ingenue part suits pastels and muted colours and I associate natural with autumnal colours. Winter seems to suit dramatic so much better.

It seems that pastels may be in for next s/s so I'm hoping that we may find some icy stuff in the shops.

Are there particular shapes associated with ingenue and natural? Is it that those kinds of shapes tend to come in softer colours? I can see how that would be tricky. Are you going to start to experiment with different clothes outside of your usual, like dresses etc? I can imagine vintagey style dresses would be quite ingenue-ish and would be easy to find in bright colours, eg the sort of dresses Mod Cloth sells. Not sure if that's your style though.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 15/12/2013 22:27

Queen, what about broderie anglaise - ingenue and white, blue, hot pink Grin

I decided to try not wearing foundation and powder this morning - I felt like I was looking too made up but wasn't sure how it would be since my skin isn't great.

So I tried it and I look okay! I do still have a few small spots but the fact that I'm wearing my colours and have a bit of lippy and mascara on is enough for today (admittedly I am not at the school gates since my daughter is ill). Quite possibly I actually look better since not being overly made up. The redness of the spots just doesn't stand out because everything else makes my skin look better. Hurrah for HOC! I will keep an eye on how I look without it but this could be a lovely new thing.

SorrelForbes · 16/12/2013 10:03

I often don't bother with foundation. I use a BB or CC cream instead or if I'm having a particularly good skin day then just use a primer or highlighter (I like the Estée Lauder Idealist skin Illuminator stuff)

QueenCadbury · 16/12/2013 10:41

Thanks all. face I love those tops you linked to and elizabeth I'd never looked at modcloth before but there's some lovely dresses. I'd love to start wearing dresses more now that I have more of and idea what to go for. I need nothing too structured so either a sort of a line shift dress or something with ruching/draping about the hips/waist. I'd prefer to buy in a shop though but so far haven't seen anything I like. The broderie angliaise tops linked are spot on. I love blouses and anything with pretty detailing is perfect. I guess it's more of a summer material though anyway so I'm hoping to find lots next year!

Can anyone enlighten me as to what my HoC sultry winter translates to in 12blueprints? Is it deep or dark winter? I have very dark eyes and hair with light olive skin. Thanks

Maraki · 16/12/2013 21:29

I think its dark winter but I'm not 100% sure

LittleBabyPigsus · 16/12/2013 22:42

I have a neutral skintone and a 12blueprints bright winter and cannot get my head around beige working. At all. Or choosing colours that suit you based on your veins Hmm

ElizabethBathory · 17/12/2013 12:31

I don't understand the veins thing either. The veins on my arm go from greenish further up my arm, to light blue, to deep violet on my wrist Hmm I think there's a bit too much 'theory' on 12 Blueprints and not enough 'does that colour make you look nice? Wear it then.'

LittleBabyPigsus · 17/12/2013 19:16

London Makeup Girl isn't going by 12blueprints, but Zyla, but kind of agree re 12blueprints. On the other hand, 12blueprints has neutral seasons as well as warm or cool which is helpful for me.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 17/12/2013 20:09

Queenie this popped up in my ads and I thought of you.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 17/12/2013 20:10

Duh...the link

QueenCadbury · 17/12/2013 21:46

That's nice face. Although I should steer clear of v necks and go for softly rounded necks instead.

I like 12 blueprints but can't always understand what she's talking about Xmas Grin.

As for the veins thing, it's as bizarre as looking intensely at your eyes Xmas Hmm can you tell I've had a drink

ElizabethBathory · 17/12/2013 22:27

I saw some black broderie anglais in Jack Wills today Queen, it was v nice (similar shape to the tops Face linked). I was returning a black lace skirt that I don't need...

LittleBabyPigsus · 18/12/2013 20:20

Due to illness/Christmas holidays I'm mostly in my pyjamas nowadays - should I be proud of the fact that they're in good colours for me (royal blue)? Grin the tshirt is from a beer festival how classy

QueenCadbury · 18/12/2013 20:34

elizabeth was it this one? It's perfect except that I'm not paying £59 Xmas Hmm.

this cardi finally arrived today. I ordered it at the beginning of December and was getting worried it would never arrive. It's my Christmas Day cardi Xmas Smile

QueenCadbury · 18/12/2013 20:39

I'm sure we've probably had this conversation before but what's your perfect red nail varnish...?

OP posts:
LittleBabyPigsus · 18/12/2013 20:43

Oh I love that cardigan! I am horrendous at painting my nails so can't help there!

KosherBacon · 18/12/2013 20:48

Perfect red is decadence by creative. It's done as polish, shellac and vinylux. It's a beautiful shimmer free, blue toned red. I totally heart it.

KosherBacon · 18/12/2013 20:49

Queen- great cardie!

Maraki · 18/12/2013 21:31

queen I've got the blues for you, OPI. A dark cheery red nail varnish

MissScatterbrain · 19/12/2013 09:29

At the moment its Barry M's Red Wine - a vampy dark red. I also have Tinseltown from them to use as a top coat to add sparkle.

I also love Rimmel's Celebrity Bash - a bright red.
