Estée Lauder Double Wear. Is it me or is it them?

I have been wearing ELDW for years. After years of foundations sliding off my face, it was a brilliant find.

But something seems to have gone wrong recently. It no longer gives good coverage, instead it settles into my pores. What has changed - my face or their formulation? And, more to the point, what do I do about it? (don't say primer because that doesn't seem to solve the problem)

Ah! I have answered my own question. It is them, not me.

Recommendations for a replacement foundation for older skin with large pores please!!!!

What?! This can't be happening. My bottle is about to run out. I see they've changed the colour of Fresco too, which is what I use. I'll be gutted if It's not as good as before. Took me ages to find a foundation that suited me and gave all day coverage.

Brandnewmamma · 19/11/2013 09:47

I have also worn it for years.. It dried out my skin and looks wierd now. I think it may be due to pregnancy and hormonal changes. I am using miracle touch by max factor now.

babySophieRose · 19/11/2013 09:54

I also don't use it anymore, used to be fab, now is horrible. I have got a Vichy dermablend at the moment, good enough, but not fab. May go back to Mac after i am finished with my current one.

sillymillyb · 19/11/2013 09:57

Oh god this thread gives me the fear, I'm nearly out my old bottle and it's the one thing that makes me look human. Nooooo!

pinkpeoniesx · 19/11/2013 09:59

I've had the same problem. I use Illamasqua rich liquid now instead and it is amazing!! Looks more natural but still has full coverage and a teeny amount will do my whole face. Think it's a little bit cheaper than double wear too!

WhoNickedMyName · 19/11/2013 13:19

I switch between this Nars foundation and ELDW. I go through phases of preferring one over the other. I haven't been impressed with my current bottle of ELDW and will buy the Nars again next.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 19/11/2013 13:31

I hated it, it oxidised immediately, I took it back & bought my faithful Clinique Perfectly Balanced.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/11/2013 14:28

I swapped to borgeoius (sp?) healthy mix, tis very cheap but lovely.

holidaysarenice · 19/11/2013 14:36

Tell me they haven't changed the estee lauder double wear light formula too?

frankietwospots · 19/11/2013 20:33

Oh shit, I bought a new bottle of Fresco at the weekend and have chucked the receipt. What can I do?

MuffCakes · 19/11/2013 20:37

I found this, I now use number 7 beautiful matt, it's amazing!

SarahJayne321 · 19/11/2013 20:39

I've noticed this too. Switched to Rimmel
Wake me up, half the price and just as good!

HyvaPaiva · 19/11/2013 20:40

This by Laura Mercier is fantastic. It's full coverage but silky (not dewy) and sits very well over pores rather than sinking in. I use a kabuki brush to buff the foundation over my skin. The brush (mine is only a £5 kabuki) and foundation together give a sort of 'airbrush' effect that is perfect for larger pores.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 19/11/2013 20:51

Why do Estée Lauder do this. I used to use their so ingenious range and it was perfect, then they discontinued it. I use the double wear light which is actually thicker than most foundations, I wonder if that one has been changed too.

futterbingers · 19/11/2013 20:57

Does anyone know if they have changed DW Light too?

KatyPeary · 19/11/2013 21:55

I don't know about ELDW Light. But after years of using it, I have stopped. Like the OP it had begun to settle into my pores, looked awful, and I thought it was my skin that had changed, but seeing the above posts, maybe not. I have oily-ish skin. Got a sample of Aqua Vitalumiére from Chanel the other day. It is gorgeous, I love it. I am all glowy.

Hetaera · 19/11/2013 22:38

I've found Revlon Colorstay to be the most similar to Double Wear in terms of extremely long wear and ability to cover anything.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 19/11/2013 22:43

I swore by it for years too then caught sight of myself in daylight and realized it made me look about 190. Now using two testers from Clarins, Ever Matte and Everlasting. Both very good, nice coverage, good for oily skin and doesn't make me look like a corpse wearing make up.

Other alternatives are Dior Forever and Lancôme teint idole.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 19/11/2013 22:46

frankietwospots - take it back to Boots ( to a different store if you're a regular where you bought it) and say you had an allergic reaction. (Spots or made your skin itch - use your imagination Grin) They will always give a full refund if you've had a problem. And if you can't do that then contact EL directly via their website and say you've had a problem with it. They'll send you a cheque.

Pancakeflipper · 19/11/2013 22:48

I have ditched the DWlight for Clarins comfort. It's lovely.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/11/2013 22:51

I use Teint Éclat now and DW powder. Was so disappointed with my last bottle.

frankietwospots · 20/11/2013 08:35

Thanks ryangoslingspants! Will try that. Good to hear all the suggestions for alternatives.

senua · 20/11/2013 09:22

Thanks all. I'm spoilt for choice now!
I think I'll try the ones that specifically mentioned being good for open pores.

Like I said, I originally went for ELDW because it was better than the alternatives but that was years ago. Make-up has evolved and improved considerably since then so I bet the others are just as good now, if not better. They are fools to mess with the formulation - I would probably still be buying it when I am 90 if they hadn't changed it.
