sleepdodger, DD is 3 and DS is 7 months old. I try to go to bed at ten but it's often closer to midnight. DS still feeds at least once in the night (and is up and down all night) and DD is still not consistently sleeping through Hmm

I've made my peace with getting around five hours broken sleep a night. On the plus side, I'm imagining that when I start getting eight hours a night I'm going to look twenty again

valiumredhead · 19/11/2013 11:54

Using a cream called Allergenics, it is nothing shirt of a miracle for my dry flaky winter skin, and only a fiver!

CMOTDibbler · 19/11/2013 11:57

Agree on sleep and low sugar diet.
Also exercise (with clean face, no sweating in the gym with make-up on).
Include good fats in diet eg oily fish, olive oil, nuts.

YoucancallmeQueenBee · 19/11/2013 12:04

Eating well. Cut right back on processed foods, cut back on high sugar & high carb stuff. Good balance of protein & fats. Makes a huge difference, as does getting enough sleep.

As I get older, I need to exfoliate more. I use salicylic acid based products (decent ones with a reasonable percentage) to get rid of the old skin. I've also learnt not to over-moisturise. Slathering too much on, just stops the dead skin cells from coming away & gives you a more dull looking complexion.

FaddyPeony · 19/11/2013 12:14

(Double) cleansing with coconut oil
Not wearing any moisturiser at night (skin feels soft enough after cleansing)
Keeping on top of spots with Sudocreme every night

^^

All of the above is really keeping my acne at bay. I'll probably never have perfect skin but wow the difference when I'm not lumping chemically creams and washes on top of it is amazing.

I know what would make it even better - giving up caffeine and sugar. I can cut down on sugar (and I'm off alcohol this month) but I'd rather keep my morning coffee. It's a little treat that makes me happy.

Agree that loads of water is important.

ElizabethBathory · 19/11/2013 12:26

Finding a moisturiser that is moisturising enough for my dry skin (Clarins multi-active day cream). Diet and the amount of water I drink makes no difference. I've tried loads of the other, cheaper moisturisers for dry skin recommended on here, but always go back to Clarins.

Deux · 19/11/2013 12:29

Cleansing with MD formualtions glycolic cleanser.

MD formulations scrub every second day.

Quinoderm on cleansed skin at night, no moisturiser. I do about 3 days in a row then a day or 2 off. On whole face not just on spots.

Avene cleanser in the morning.

Dr Jart Waterfuse BB cream.

No bananas, ever.

Reduced chocolate/sugar.

High dose Vitamin D supplements.

Skin significantly improved. Still get the odd spot but they're gone in a few days rather than lurking around for weeks. Blackheads reduced by 80%.

FaddyPeony · 19/11/2013 12:48

No bananas?!

Interesting!

YoniTime · 19/11/2013 12:52

Why are bananas bad?

Deux · 19/11/2013 13:39

I'm not sure they are indeed bad, but I think they may be bad for me. Smile

After a period of better-skin, i realised I hadn't eaten a banana for about 5 days and just wondered if there was any connection. So i just thought, I can survive without bananas, I'll see what happens if i stop eating them.

It's difficult to know exactly which bit of my regime has made the most significant difference but I do know that my skin is massively improved.

It's the inflammation that seems to have gone. I used to get horrid spots that I could feel under the surface of my skin, they'd throb for weeks before healing and leaving awful purple scars. I just don't get them any longer. It's weird.

I did google to see if bananas were a known acnegenic, but couldn't find any thing.

It's probably coincidence?

Lottapianos · 19/11/2013 13:43

All the boring stuff really does work - loads of water, loads of veg, cut down on sugar, booze, caffeine, get as much sleep as you can manage, exercise, no ciggies

missinglalaland · 19/11/2013 13:47

Green smoothies! After two weeks skin is bright and glowing.
My recipe: frozen mango or pineapple, small banana, two handfuls of fresh spinach, four inches diced cucumber, topped up with a glass if cocnut water. Whir on blender, drunk through a straw. Glowing free, tastes sweet. Three if your five a day out if the way before breakfast is even over.

BoffinMum · 19/11/2013 13:47

I stopped using cleanser and toner, and only wore makeup once or twice a week. Skin has never been better. All I use is a little bit of moisturiser, such as Simple.

missinglalaland · 19/11/2013 13:48

Urghh, typing on iPhone. Meant to say "glowing green, but tastes sweet."

Sorry

angelinajelly · 19/11/2013 18:07

Hot cloth cleansing every night.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2013 18:10

Taking iron tablets after probably years (maybe even decades tbh) of being v anaemic.

Yama · 19/11/2013 18:12

Cutting out sugar. By this, I mean all processed food, bread, pasta etc.

frankietwospots · 19/11/2013 18:15

Where do people get coconut oil from pls?

OverseasNanny · 19/11/2013 18:22

Water.

Botox

What is double cleansing?

DurhamDurham · 19/11/2013 18:24

Using a home made very cheap aspirin face mask every week. Cost is pennies and my skin has never looked as good as it does now. Other people have noticed so it's not just in my imagination Smile
