Jeans for a pear shape

I know this has been done before on here, but I can't find any recent threads with styles currently online.

I am a size 12, 5'7", big hips/thighs, small waist. Fairly flat, but rather wobbly post-dc, tum.

Finding jeans to fit has always been a nightmare. Either they fit on the thighs/hips but are massive round the waist, or they fit on the waist but I can't cram my thunder thighs into them. Major gapage (it's a word) at the back if I wear low rise, plus I want tummy coverage so prefer a higher waist.

I adore Topshop Kristen high-waisters, but having worn my way through many pairs of these, I've come to the conclusion that they are a bit shoddy (fabric not v strong, knees go really quickly etc).

Any recommendations? I'd prefer jeans on the cheaper side (less than £50) but would save up if they were really fab. Want to order online to spare myself the hell of trying on jeans in shops.

TIA!

okthen - I am 40 and went to the Levis store! They didn't turn me away for being too elderly. They were very professional and discrete and not at all intimidating. John Lewis won't be trained in fitting you for the curve jeans as well as the Levis staff and of course they stock a much larger range of styles and sizes than John Lewis.

Thanks Dexter and Mejon - I'll have a look!

I am far too self-conscious to actually go into a Levi's store and be fitted, but I might order a couple of pairs online - and I'll def. check out Gap. My body is genuinely ridiculous - I have a little waist, shoulders and back, and then from the waist down am huge. But running/swimming is evening me out somewhat so here's hoping I can finally wear jeans in public!

FragglerockAmpersand · 20/11/2013 13:23

Could I just ask - the Gap 'real straight' jeans - surely they can't be good for people with big arse and thighs? It says low rise, and slim fit to hip and thigh.

I'm dreaming of a pair that's high rise (so I don't flash my bum whenever I move) and generous in the thigh and hip, but fitted around the waist and lower legs. I guess maybe that sounds more like the Levi ones??

Sorry for asking idiotic questions but honestly, I'm practically a jeans virgin...

Newcurtainsplease · 20/11/2013 13:36

I tried the Next pair but they seem to have gone really baggy and don't look very smart any more. I am exactly the same size as you and wear skinnies with hip length tops, I think they are very flattering. My favourite pairs are H&M 30/32 skinny low jeans for 9.99. They took some getting used to but I love them and they still look brand new. I also bought the New Look high rise skinny after reading about them on here - but size 14. Good luck!

Fraggle - Next sell Levis curve so quite an easy and quick way to try them.
Just noticed I put that the Levis staff are discrete. They are, of course, discreet!!

mejon · 20/11/2013 14:05

Fraggle - I have a huge arse, huge wobbly thighs and dreadful fat calves and cankles (I sound gawjuss) but the Gap really straight ones are great. The rise comes up over my spare tyre and though I need a belt, there's very little gappage at the back and definitely no hoiking up (which I hate). They're not tight anywhere on me at all. I wouldn't wear them without a long-ish top (say mid-thigh) but that's the same with any pair. Duckyfuzz - Grin at me fitting a 14 Thanks.

Can I ask if anywhere other than Levi's stores and JL do the curve jeans - not too easy to get to either of those from here. My town has usual high street stores inc a Debenhams. Oh, and I'm 52 so laughing at you young things worrying about your age! Grin

dexter73 · 20/11/2013 16:50

Errol - if you google Levis curve it comes up with all the places that sell them like John Lewis, Amazon, Asos, Very etc.

FragglerockAmpersand · 20/11/2013 17:01

well I didn't like to say, dexter Grin

mejon you have described me to a Tee. I shall see if their biggest size fits. . .

I had no idea buying jeans was such a flipping nightmare. You don't get this with frocks, people!

I mean - apart from anything else I didn't realise that you kind of have to get a pair that's a bit too small, because within 24 hours they've sort of relaxed. This means I could TOTES have got away with a size 18 pair from M&S last month

My aim is to run/swim my way into a size 16 pair by Christmas but frankly chaps I'm not holding my breath (apart from trying to do the zip up)

FragglerockAmpersand · 20/11/2013 17:04

Do you know what my problem is : if you look at me from behind I swear the size of my bottom, measured from top to, so to speak, bottom, takes up just about a third of my vertical length. If you see what I mean.

Like - from top of head to waist - a third
From waist to bottom of arse (!) - a third
From bottom of arse to soles of feet - a third

Already prolly not THAT much as my legs are quite long but ... it's just the sheer SIZE of the fucker. It's actually quite awe-inspiring.

okthen · 20/11/2013 20:11

Fraggle- big butts are ace, and yours will be getting v toned from the exercise you are doing. As Sir Mixalot says 'shake that healthy butt'!

I have ordered the Next high waisted skinnies in a 12, rather hoping I might have to send them back and order a 10!

V tempted by Levi's curve and Gap straight jeans- but will wait for sales. Am getting carried away because I've just gone back to work after mat leave- getting paid is rather novel!

Okthen Grin Now I have an earworm!!

okthen · 22/11/2013 09:51

The Next skinnies arrived, the 12 fits well. Too early to tell if they will keep shape etc. they are really v similar to Topshop Kristen- but cheaper. Good shout!

My DD has the next skinnies in black, they seem to be keeping their shape. No way would my legs fit in them though!
