I've an easy question and a difficult question

The easy one is, I've just bought my 14 yo DD her first pair of Doc Marten's - she's 'well pleased' with them - xmas pressie given early because the only non-school shoes she would wear were canvas. So now I want to get her some good socks to go with them to go in her xmas stocking - not sure what length works best with this height of boot but I'm sure someone here will.

The difficult one is jeans for me. I'm 5'1" pear shape, just about not overweight but sturdy of thigh and calf and an annoying knee bulge ... which means that bootcut is the only style I think really suits me and I'm sick of them and wishing I could find something that would work with boots (because of course, perversely bootcuts only work outside of short boots). Any ideas?

Easy one: surely she'll be wearing them with stripy tights? They look so great with shorter skirts on skinny teenage legs (oh, happy memories). Otherwise, longer, woolly socks that can be scrunched down at the top of the boot but still visible. This is based on my own taste twenty years ago, though. Grin

Straight leg (ie slim) or skinny jeans should work well if they are tucked into boots. The boots act like the bootleg and balance things out at the lower end of the leg. Enhance the effect with woolly socks just sticking out above the boots.

You might even find slim jeans flattering. I have some Gap "real straight" ones and was surprised to find they look OK, as I'm very pear-shaped. I am also sick of bootcuts and have been off them for nearly a year and don't fancy going back now.

Try M&S per Una Roma straight leg jeans.

Brillenbar · 17/11/2013 19:38

Also a short pear. Try gap real straight ankle fit, and also boden straight leg petite I find the boden ones better

Are you gouging to shove a wine bottle into dds boots to break the back of the ankle in?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2013 23:09

Any slim/skinny jeans I've tried look dreadful, if they even go on at all! (15" calf)I've got some Per Una straight legs, they're ok but don't think they'd really work with boots, there's still quite a lot of cloth at the ankle.

Haven't tried Gap yet though, 'real straight ankle fit' sounds hopeful. Never had anything from boden for myself, I guess with their returns being easy I should give those a go. Can you tell me what their sizing is like please (ie if I have a 10 in per una would boden be 10 too or 12)?

Is that the recommendation? good excuse to buy a bottle of wine! Grin

Thanks all. Thanks

Boyfriend jeans would work on you. Or actual mens jeans, try it.
Bootcut jeans are the most unflattering thing anyone pair shape can wear, they make people look like christmas crackers.
Trust me, even at my absolute size 10 slimmest i have saddle bags like a pack horse and obese knees. Skinny jeans that fit properly in a dark colour shave inches off!

I have some Sainsburys new style boyfriend jeans, they are really lovely, not too tight over upper leg but slender enough to go into boots and certainly not baggy or parsnip shaped.

Can you tell me what brand/cut do fit you - none I've tried work at all for me.

Do 'boyfriend' jeans work at the waist? The only time I've worn men's jeans was half-way through pregnancy!

Thanks again all.

My boyfriends are classic rise - don't fall down but not right up to real waist.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2013 14:39

I looked at those in sainsbos today - the leg shape did look good but they appeared lower rise than I like and I want dark (or black) really.
