Changing hair colour

I hate going to the hairdressers! I usually have foils and blonde hair but I keep letting my roots go so I've decided I would like to go brown (light). Do I ask for foils or is it something else like an all over colour? Boring question and I have googled but I don't understand

I'd say all over. I do my own though and stick it on like shampoo

I get my hair coloured with a '7'. It's technically a dark blonde colour, but not bleach. It comes up a mid/ light brown on my mid brown with grey hair. Last time, I had a few foils with a number 9 but they are very subtle.

Thanks, so all over is the way to go? Sure the hairdresser will be relieved with that since foils must be a nightmare on long hair!
