Really weak nails

Can anyone suggest something to help strengthen my really weak nails? I've tried everything ( I think) but they break so easily! Even making my bed, for example, they bend backwards and break, sometimes really far down! Help!!

I swear by Mavala nail strengthener after reading about it on here. It's a blue liquid that you paint on the tips.

Ashinagai · 13/11/2013 20:16

Pregnacare! I'm going back on it, my nails were fab when I was taking it even TTCSmile

hermioneweasley · 13/11/2013 20:19

Another vote for Malva scientifique

DisappointedHorse · 13/11/2013 20:19

My nails are absolutely dreadful too, peeling as well as weak and bendy.

I found the marvala strengthener actually made the peeling worse, I used it for a couple of weeks then it took my nails 3 months to recover. In fact, if anyone wants mine, pm me your address!

OP, the only thing that has worked for me is dr lewinns renunail but its still no magic bullet. I've given up really.

Eat lots of grapes! And try Nailtiques formula 2. It's clear and you paint a layer on every day or two, then take it off after a week.

i really rate avoplex by opi

Possiblyorange · 13/11/2013 20:38

Another vote for avoplex (sp?) by OPI. It's a cuticle oil so nourishes nails at the point they're growing. I use that and OPI nail envy as a base coat when I wear varnish and that keeps my ridiculously weak nails vaguely ok.

Thanks all!! Will give your suggestions a go and see which works the best for me! X

Not a conventional (or cheap) suggestion but maybe have Shellac nail polish put on. I first had shellac polish on my own nails 3 months ago and I have not broken one nail since then - they appear to be indestructible Grin

I have them repainted a different colour every 2 weeks but you can get away with it every 3 weeks (I get bored with the same colour after 2 weeks).

My nails are now consistently a fabulous length and look amazing all the time Smile

FizzyFeet · 13/11/2013 21:22

Folic acid! Like Ashingai, my nails have been great since ttc and I've just been taking Folic acid rather than pregnacare. V cheap too!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 14/11/2013 16:54

Mavala and massaging stuff into my cuticles has worked brilliantly for me.

indignatio · 14/11/2013 16:55

Coconut oil rubbed in.

valiumredhead · 14/11/2013 17:59

Coconut oil, miraculous stuff!

thecapitalsunited · 14/11/2013 18:01

I swear by Lush's Lemony Flutter. It has done no end of good for my nails. I bit mine for 20 years so they were awful and now they are hard but not brittle and I even get compliments about how nice they look.

southeastastra · 14/11/2013 20:23

i use a gel nail kit, red carpet and it hardens nails as it dries so quickly and you can put on a few coats to make them really strong.

nails will still be bendy but if you keep them polished they will grow Grin

I had the same problem till someone told me about Rimmel Nail Rescue. I now have the long, strong nails I had in my youth again. Unfortunately am near the end of the first bottle I bought and can't find it anymore! Am looking everywhere, wonder if they've re-named the same product as there's a new one called Nail Nurse on sale. Does anyone out there know if it's the new name for it?

ancelynthecraven · 21/11/2013 17:22

Rommel Nail Rescue. I'd go door to door selling this. And I've spunked no end of cash on expensive nail strengtheners.

eurochick · 21/11/2013 18:30

Ashinagai, I came on here to suggest the same thing - I have had amazing nails since I have been taking pregnacare while ttc. They used to be weak and peel into layers. I must have been deficient in some nutrient or other (perhaps folic acid, per fizz's post!).

summermovedon · 21/11/2013 19:08

Eat lots of almonds!
