Leather dye for a mock-croc handbag?

I have a lovely large Russell & Bromley mock-croc handbag that I've had for years. When I was first given it, after a couple of weeks of initial use the dye on the shoulder straps and back of the bag started rubbing away, leaving the greyish white surface underneath. I took itcback to R & B and they swapped it, but when the same thing eventually happened with the replacement, for whatever reason I never got round to taking it back again.

Does anyone have experience of patch-dyeing leather goods such as this? It's not patent leather but is a fairly high-shine texture, and a lovely deep dark brown colour (in parts!). Obviously I want to use a dye that won't come off again on the same way the first one did.

Any tips gratefully received!

I have used this to completely change the colour of shoes and it worked well, it hasn't come off so far. It's very easy to do and the finish is high shine but not gloss.

If it's leather and you don't fancy diy these people might be able to help.
